Tire recommendation

Hi guys, I'm tired of road noise on my current goodyear tires and 2 need to replace but unfortunately they're discontinue so I'd rather replace all four. Now I'm narrowing two brands which are the Continental DW or the Hankook ventus V12 evo K110. So far the lowest prices I've found been on tires-easy.com which where I purchased my current tires. I'm pissed that I found bumps on the middle of the two rear tires and goodyear is telling me the warranty won't cover it because is a mechanical wearing issue blah, blah, blah so not trying on spending another 1k on tires. Any advise you guys can give me will be appreciated.

I've had pretty good luck with continentals recently. I'm currently running DWS on mine and they're fairly quiet and seems to grip well. The best tires I had on my RL were PS2 but they only lasted 13,000 miles. Then I went with pilot all seasons but that was a loud tire. I went with the DWS primarily because of the longer tread life and I've been pretty happy with the cross contact uhp on my GL550.

Just installed my DW's yesterday. Great ride considering they're 20's. Turn in response could be a little better but they have great lateral grip at the limit. Hard to say about noise since I went from 17" to 20" tires. I don't know that I can really give a fair comparison. They are actually the only tire I can remember owning that exhibits more noise on asphalt than concrete. They almost hum on asphalt. Again, I'm also comparing them to the 17" tires I just took off so it's not really a fair comparison.

As for the Hankooks. A coworker of mine put them on his G37x. He promptly took them off and replaced them with BFG KDW NT's because the V12's were so loud. Pretty shocking to me considering the KDW NT's always score low marks in the tire noise category.

Also, Continental is light years ahead of Hankook in terms of overall quality.

Also, the Eagle F1 GS-D3 has never been considered an incredibly quiet tire. Either the Hankook or the Continental will probably be as quiet or quieter than the GS-D3's. The GS-D3 was released quite some time ago. Tires have advanced a good amount in terms of computer aided variable pitch tread design to help suppress tire noise.

Toyo doesn't make the Versado in a 245/40R19. Considering he currently Eagle F1 GS-D3's I would assume he's looking for another summer performance tire anyway. The Versado is an all season tire.

Again, another all season tire. The Potenza S-04 Pole Position would be much better.

I don't think Bridgestone makes the 970 in his size either and they would be out of his price range. S-04 Pole Positions are like $300/tire. Ouch. The RE-760 would be a little more budget friendly but they wear quickly.

Zelaya, you might want to check out the Nitto Invo too. Smooth quiet ride. Not quite the grip of the DW's but by far the coolest tread design out there.

Thanks for the information. I've heard okay reviews for the hankooks.

Because you and I see so many variations in the weather with each season that a true performance tire (like the BMWs run) will not perform well in the heavy rain, snow, and extreme heat.

Just my opinion bro.

what about Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+.

I'm running these now on my 17" wheels.. and they are excellent. good comfort, with great handling. not as grippy as a full blown summer tire like the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.. but for the relatively high treadwear rating, ,it's a very grippy tire.

i just bought 18" wheels and am considering keeping this same tire when I buy 18" ones in a couple weeks...

My only concern is that I don't want to spend another 1k on tires. The RL is my weekend car and it has more than 70 life thread left and need to replace two tires because it has a middle bumps. The road noice is driving nuts. I've seen members here with hankook V12 but I've not read any possitive or negative reviews.

Get the Conti's. Mine have 8k miles and are still great.

Zelaya, you run winter wheels, right? If so, you should be fine with summers.

All tires have to perform in rain because it can rain in any given month. There is no impact to safety running summer tires in a rainy season.

I've my oem 17 inch wheels which I can't use for winter because it won't fit because of my BBK so the RL was pretty much parked all winter, luckily mother nature threated us great this year in the east coast. I guess I will have to buy the DW's. Just need to see which vendor gives me the cheapest prices. How much did you pay for yours

Cool. Now go ahead and find that tire in a 245/40R19 for Zelaya's 19" wheels.

Zelaya, the Continental DW tested extremely well in wet conditions. In fact, a lot of guys I autocross with run them for their rain tire setup.

Wow that's a great price with installed and hazard coverage. So far I can't find no less than 1300.00 and that's not even including wheel alignment. I really hate to give my business away from Maryalnd but all this local tire shops are smoking the cuban cigars.

Continental ExtremeContact DW 245/40R19 $223

I hear you on staying local, but with TireRacks low prices and service they're hard to beat.

You can find a local installer via Tirerack and have them shipped to them and installed not to mention via TireRack my installer offers a $10 off coupon for alignment.

Just a thought.....

These are 45 series:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

40 series are less, but out of stock:

http://www.tiresdirect.net/CONTINENT..._P5732C929.cfm

look to be in stock and they are in Odenton, MD so maybe you could pick them up?

Got a link for that? I'd be surprised since TireRack doesn't show that tire, I don't have it in my system and Bridgestone doesn't list it on their website as an available size at all.

Update

It seems the Conti's DW will be discountinue soon and they're coming with a new model in May. So far discount tire direct is giving me this options. . I also checked with tireteam.com but I will get hit with sales tax and shipping.

Conti's DWS 245/40/19 $970.00 shipped and hazard coverage included. The sales guy recommend going this option and will have more thread life. The sales guys can still get me the DW but if I go through same problem in the future he won't be able to get me same replacement

Hankook V12 same size for $832.00 shipped and hazard coverage as well.

I know decision decision is what I'm going right now

That's a big price difference. With the one review here regarding noise, how much is quiet worth? Is it really that much quieter?

Well I'm placing the order this Friday at latest. I'm sure I may knock out $30.00 more on the price but will see. I'm going with the DWS. The only thing I don't like about the conti's is that BIG letters across the tire " CONTINENTAL" it looks tacky but at the end of the day is all about performance and durability. Can't win them all.

The Hankook V12 is performance tire and not all season like the DWS so this is a apple with oranges comparison.

It's not just about noise. Wear, handling and build quality also factor into all of this. The DW is a superior tire so it is priced accordingly. In the same respect, the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is superior to the Conti DW so it fetches an even higher price. The DW is an incredible bang for your buck. Probably more so than any other tire in the industry.

I had Pilot Sport A/S after my PS2's and before my DWS and it was more expensive than the DWS, but I think the DWS is a better tire. The Pilot Sport A/S rode rougher and were louder. One thing I have noticed though is I've lost about 3 mpg with the DWS... not sure if it's all caused by the tire... I'm going to put new spark plugs in and run some cleaner in the fuel and see if I get some of it back. I currently have around 65k miles on my RL.

Hi Guys, been very busy lately that I haven't pull the trigger yet. My local tire shop just told me that Conti's on DW's or DW will be discontinue for my size (245/40/19) so his advised is to buy extra two tires just in case is not available anymore or go with Goodyear RS-A 94V which is $210.00 less. I feeling say go for DW or s. I wonder how the RS-A 40 profile will look. The tread look is not apealing tho.
