RL Wheels - ASA, Axis, Beyern, & TSW

Does anyone have the wheels listed below on their RL, (in 18" or 19")? I'm looking at these rims, but am not sure on caliper clearance, and especially fender clearance. It seems there is a bit of difference on how the offset falls by brand, in comparison to Acura's 55mm figure. All of these are mesh style rims, with a high polish lip area. Their rated offsets put them out about 20mm. If you do have them, pics would be great! If you have this type of rim from a different company, for under $350 each, I'd love to get their info too.

ASA - AR1 or AR2
8.5" - 40mm

Axis - Penta
8" - 35mm

Beyern - Mesh or Multi
8.5" - 40mm

TSW - Snetterton
8" - 35mm

PS - There needs to be a part of this site that just lists every rim that anybody has put under the RL, with specs and pics. All listed in a spreadsheet form that could be sorted!!!

To be safe on 19's i hear you have to go 42mm to clear the brakes up front. Some people say maybe 40mm but they dont guarantee that it will clear your brakes. I havent seen anyone do 40mm here?
Try looking at the ASA JH9 45mm or Foose wheels F5,lusso,speedster etc with 45mm. Verde & Bremmer also make so 42 or 45mm offset wheels. Piaa makes a 19x9 with a 45mm.There are others but you have to some research.

I think it depends entirely on the wheel and how the manufacturer designs it. As I have mentioned several times before, it is the area shaded in yellow that counts for caliper clearance, and this area is somewhat independent of the usual measures of diameter, width and offset.

For example, there is a wheel in 19x8.5 with a +48 mm offset, which is just about perfect, maintaining the inner side suspension clearance at stock and moving the outer side of the wheel out board 13 mm toward the fender. And yet there are other narrower wheels in a 19x8.0 with a +41 mm that just clear the front calipers, and yet do not clear the RL front calipers in the same wheel at +45 mm.

So in the end, among other factors, a fitment guarantee is most important, unless there are real live examples from other members that say I have used a xx wheel on a 2005-2010 RL with no issues.

Unfortunately, there is even seeming inconsistent information from the manufacturers themselves. We have a real live example of a particular ASA wheel fitting on an RL, and yet I have an email from the US corporate office a year later that says, sorry, the same wheel won't fit the RL. It is unclear whether they changed the design slightly so it does not now fit, or if they just have database issues, as I did not pursue the matter further.

I actually started an excel spreadsheet some time ago, but have not kept it up. It is somewhere on my laptop. It is a lot of work sorting through all the emails and in the end, I had no place to host the file.

Anyone have any ideas on how to host an Excel file?

There has to be someone with mesh style rims

Thanks, it does seem so specific to rim model because of spoke and lip design, not just offset. I've talked to a couple manufacturers that say a rim will fit. Then the photo in their gallery, or that is emailed to me has it sticking way out the fender.
Chas2, I just can't bring myself to buying anything Tire Rack lists for the RL for under $800! If you put certain models of BMWs in their website you can get a lot of nice rims to come up that have specs that look good on paper. I'm going to try to deal with my local (1 hour away) Tire Rack.
I've seen an ASA 19 x 8.5 rim with a 38mm offset tucked perfectly under the RL on this site, but I don't care for the model. I'm in the process of returning 18 x 8.5 rims with a 42mm offset that hit the caliper right now.

As I am sure you know, BMW has a different sized hub, and you will need to get a centering ring for a hubcentric fit. Make sure you also get lugs and TPMS.

The Tire Rack should take care of you. If you actually look at their 18x9 BBS RE, this appears to be BMW wheel that they use a centering ring with. So long as they give you a fitment guarantee, you should be OK.

Let us know what you come up with and I can add it to the spreadsheet if I ever get enough energy to start it up again.

Thanks Chas2, I realize about the hubcentric rings, and got some sensors from www.oemacuraparts.com. I can't afford the divorce that would happen if I bought the BBS rims. I was able to figure out that ASA drops the 18" AR1 & AR2 rims to 8" with a 40mm offset, where as the 19" are 8.5" with a 40mm offset. These should fit. Tire Rack has them, and I'll be contacting them later this week. I'll let you know.

T-Jay, they look great, but I can't run 20". I live in Lake Tahoe, at 6200'. We get a lot of snow, and have terrible roads. The smaller diameter TSW rims in this model drop down to a 35mm offset. This makes me concerned with them sticking out the front fenders. Thanks

whatever rims you get, just use a piece of clay to check for caliper clearance. you might have ti use spacers. which aint bad cause you can get some hubcentric spacers and seat the rims better.
