Hey everybody,
I'm new here and excited about finding this forum.
Question: I just bought a 2011 RL, loving it, but discovered that it has the original tires still on it, at 77k miles on odometer!
Where should I go to get new tires? Looking at Michelin Primacy MXV4, 245/45R18.
Any thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Tirerack.com is always a good place to do some research on tires. This is a link for all the tires in the same category - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey....jsp?type=GTAS
There are other categories you can research, but I chose the one the tire you are looking at is in.

Don't get the Primacy MXV4. It is being phased out and replaced with the Michelin Premier A/S. Get the Premier instead, as long as you're not looking for a tire with a lot of dry handling capabilities. If you want something that is more of a high performance all-season tire, get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3.
OK, I have it narrowed down to two: the Michelin Premier A/S (set of 4: $948) and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S(set of 4: $708).
I am in Chicago area so without considering price, I would probably select the Premiers for the better snow performance.
But that price difference sure makes me want to choose the Pilots, plus they are more high performance! I understand not scrimping on price for tires, but think that either of these tires are not a "scrimp" in quality. At this point what's another $240, right? What would you do NBP04TL4ME and BDoggPrelude?

I don't have personal experience with either tire you have picked but know that in general Michelin is a very good brand. I believe there are member here on AZ that have purchased and been happy with the A/S3s. Just make sure you get the correct load rating for your RL.
I recently put Continental PureContacts on my wife's ES350 and have been happy with them but haven't had them in the snow yet.

Hey,
I own a 2011 RL Adv., when I bought the car in 2013 the car only had 13,000 miles, however, I hate the stock RL tires they are very rough and loud, I put on the Pilot Sport A/S 3. Tires are quite pricey, however I got good money out of selling the tires the RL came with. The Sport A/S 3 are very, very quiet and soft tires, on smooth and rough pavement the car is worlds quieter, believe me. If you all about a comfortable ride try the Primacy MXM4, pricey as well, but very comfortable, you take a toll on handling. Post pics of your newly acquired ride! Congrats on the RL.

Just an FYI, that price on the Pilot's is probably for the lower speed and load rated version. You should get the the 100Y version, not the 95V ones.
Personally, I run UHP summer tires 6 months and winter tires the other 6 so I wouldn't get an all-season tire. You need to decide what's more important to you. Wet/dry traction, get the A/S3. Snow traction, ride and longevity, get the Premier.

Agree with BDogg. If you would like to go with the AS3, it is very good in the dry and wet, but the winter traction is very limited.
Thanks guys. After the previous winter we just had, I am thinking about leaning toward the Premier A/S 245/45R18 100V.
.
I am just so excited to finally own an RL. My first Acura was a 2009 RDX for the wife and kid and we loved it, very peppy 4cyl with the Turbo! Now she drives a Tech Ent MDX which is amazing and I had a TSX which I thought was very solid until finding this opportunity.
I have always looked with longing at the RL's and like the way they appear quite conservative and understated, yet pack a good punch and are extremely high quality. During my research, I noticed a ton of negativity toward the RL and the contrarian in me grew to love the RL more and more.

Update: I just got my new tires today and installed today, they are great!
Side story: Went back to work after the tire install, and upon leaving work and walking out to my car at 5pm, a mom in a SUV backed out of a parking space and bumped into my car, hitting my rear number at a very low speed!
SMH, WTF, imagine my horror when I see my new (used) car, the one I researched for so long and have owned for a whopping two weeks, getting fucking hit.
Anyway, it turned out that my bumper is actually fine, there is one small scratch that is imperceptible, so I did not call the police or get her insurance info. Go ahead and flame away, but I was in shock and just don't feel like going through all the shit for a cosmetic thing. Do any of you smart people know, is there some sort of touch up paint I can buy somewhere for my bumper? The car is black, a 2011 RL.

So did you end up going with the Premier A/S?
Sorry to hear about the scratch in your baby.

Yeah, I got the Premier A/S. They feel great on the road.
And just got the scratches out with some Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0!!!

Cruisin'
The Premier is a very good choice. I had the Pilot Sport A/S and like others have mentioned, they feather on the edges despite keeping perfect alignment. If you ever decide to run dedicated snows (ex. Michelin Pilot Alpin) in the winter, I would consider the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Very grippy in both wet and dry but definitely NOT for winter or colder weather.
Thanks for the tip. For those of you who do have dedicated snow/winter tires, is it a big hassle to switch tires twice a year? I have a picture in my head of transporting tires to my guy's shop and waiting two hours, twice a year...I get the concept but actually doing it in real life...and also there's the costs to pay your guy. It must be really worth it?
For now, at least, I'm happy to have purchased a solid all-season tire, thanks to everyone's input, and am calling it a day. But always open to new ideas.

It's super easy if you have two sets of wheels and tires and a floor jack in your garage. Even without my air tools, I can change out the wheels on my car in under 15 minutes.

Two sets of tires will be a pain in the ass. Dismount, remount, balance, pay...
Two sets of tires on two sets of wheels isn't any different than a tire rotation.

^ +1 Agreed. While I may not be a quick as BDoggPrelude, I can swap out my Summer to Winter or back in an hour. It is essentially equivalent to a tire rotation in the garage and you can do it on your own time.
