Smile Replaced Stock Wheels with the Elbrus 102 on my '06

I needed a set of tires and didn't have big bucks to spend on wheels for a set of forged, so went with inexpensive Elbrus 102's... definately like the looks of them and the 18's fill up the fenderwells nicely. Rolling with Michelin Primacy MXV4 245/45R18, which were $40 less expensive than the Serenities but have had some problems with them... will post separate thread on that. But check out the new wheels...

How'd you handle TPMS?

They look good -- if you could paint the indentations they'd look pretty similar to A-Specs.

Looks good!

You can actually, potentially see the whole Acura on the calipers, not Acur or cura.

TPMS was added in with the tire/wheel package at the time of purchase and have had no issues with the TPMS. It seemed to instantly pick up the new sensors.

I'll have to re-take the pic to see how much of the name we can see!

btw, I took some weights to compare stock to this after-market setup:

Stock tire & 17" wheel = 50.5 lbs (with 50k miles of wear)

Elbrus 18" wheel & new tire = 55.5 lbs

Looks good man! I have been debating those wheels vs. the Ron Jon Legends...Elbrus definitely has the edge on pricing, especially with the way the economy is going (Acura's wheels are ridiculous, $600 for one wheel? C'mon...)

If you can snap some more pictures from different angles that would be cool. I am just north of Hartford in Windsor, where is Franklin?

I like the Elbrus wheels!

Has the extra 5lbs weight per side affected your RL in any way?
How is the performance?
How is the gas mileage?

Thanks!

$145 each!
Not a bad price at all, but they are rated at 26lbs. I am a little worried about the weight.

Those look SO much better than the stockies.

Did you ever consider getting a set of A-Specs before you got these?

I sent you PM, but I have not noticed the 5 extra lbs per wheel in any way. Like I mention the handling is crisper but ride a little harsher... but maybe the hard tire compound has more to do with that. I am happy to report essentially the same gas mileage as stock setup. This was a big fear I had, so these tires must have low rolling resistance. I've gotten up to 27.5 on highway on 100 mile trip and usually in-town and highway combined avg of 25mpg. All city driving would certainly be lower. The new wheels are very easy to clean and I'm still happy I got them.... can't beat them for the price IMO.

BTW... Pics above are with the stock springs... not lowered at all (yet). Not too much of a wheel gap with this setup.

thanks for the compliments guys... hope to get ceramic tint next spring.

I have ceramic as well and noticed that its a lighter tint. However, you won't have any problems with the cops (CT, depending upon the town, can give you a real hard time about it) and ceramic tint is really high quality stuff.

I have been looking at those wheels and the elbus 106's I believe they are the same wheels with just a different shaped spoke. They look good I think I might go with them.I am only going with 245-40-18.I do not want any rubbing issues.Post came at a good time for me.Looks good and not a bad price.

Not to get too off topic but I've been rolling in CT with 28% tint for at least 8 years now and never had a problem with tint and the cops. 28% is just enough to darken things up when looking at the car from the outside without what I'd call being obnoxiously blacked out. Btw the factory glass has about 3% tint to it, so keep that in mind when considering the overall tint level choice.

As for those rims, $145 a piece is a steal for those.

I have the same exact combo on my 06 RL. I am very happy with the wheels and the Conti tires.
Good luck!

I recently bought these wheels (Elbrus 102s) and they look great but I'm having trouble finding a socket that will fit into the lug holes? None of my 13/16 sockets will fit. Even the thin wall sockets I got from Tire Rack are too large. I went to Sears to get the wheels swapped and they didn't have anything that fit either - they tried 19mm and 20mm sockets.

What did you guys use? Thx

22 mm is what fits OEM lugs, not sure what lugs were provided with the Elbrus since I am sure OEM lugs do not have the same seat as the Elbrus.

The lugs seem much thinner than OEM. I use a 1/2 inch drive, 3/4" hex head socket and it fits perfectly. I use it with about a 2-foot long breaker bar.

I think I know what the problem is: My wheels shipped with 13/16 lug nuts. I can't find a 13/16 socket that goes into the lug hole. I guess you must have 19mm lug nuts. I notice that TR now provides special lug nuts with the wheel. I'm gonna try to order an ultra thin wall socket from Snap-on. Socket diameter is 1 1/8" which should just about fit that tiny hole on the wheel
