PAX Class Action Settled

Unless anyone know the details, it looks like we won't find out until January 14 or so.

Hopefully it will be a decent settlement. I'm not looking forward to spending $2500 on new wheels/tires/spare kit.

Doesn't seem like it's enough. They'll cover replacement costs (prorated) for the tires, but are you still stuck with the wheels or not? Does the replacement cost include new rims that are necessary to de-PAX?

The fact that they're offering a rebate on a "spare tire" kit would imply pro-rated replacement of the PAX wheel/tire assemblies with conventional wheel/tire assemblies. There'd be no reason for a spare kit if settlement involved sticking with the PAX assemblies. Probably, we'll just have to wait until Acura contacts those of us with PAX RLs to find out how they intend to handle it. Acura being their premium brand and of limited number of vehicles involved, may be handeled differenently than Honda owners. I'm just wondering if they'll be replacing the rear shocks and springs, along with new wheel assemblies (IF that's the deal) since they've made such a big deal out of NOT putting conventional wheel assemblies on PAX equipped cars.

Time will tell what the deal is, so we'll just have to "stay tuned in".

If your car has Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and a disabling button for the Collision Mitigation Breaking System (CMBS) to the left of your Tachometer, then it has the PAX tire system -- unless you bought used and a previous owner replaced them with conventional wheels and tires.

Look at the tire sidewall and it will clearly identify itself as PAX system tires.

They will also have an unfamiliar metric sizing: 245-680R460A.

In general, they appeared on 2006-2008 RLs with ACC/CMBS options only, although there have been at least one story of a non ACC/CMBS cars having PAX tires on it because a swap was done...PAX tires did not come on 2009 RLs with ACC/CMBS

Wow! Good thing we didn't all sign up as named plaintiffs in this case; it'd be a joke for several thousand owners of PAX equipped cars to share all $83,000.... and as usual, the lawyers take the millions

I found this in a PAX thread on another site:

Please contact James Miller next week at our toll-free number, (866) 540-5505, and he can discuss the terms of the settlement with you, which are now a matter of public record.

Very truly yours,

Betsy Ferling-Hitriz
Legal Assistant

Any one here have any luck on trying to get feed back from the dealer about an official depax rebate/spare tire kit?

Stripped of all the legalese it amounts to nothing more than an extension of Michelin's two year warranty for three more years. Does absolutely nothing about the huge cost of replacement and nothing at all the lack of any easy way to have the tires serviced if there's a problem -- PAX servicers remain few and far between and you will have to register on supplied form to even be eligible for the extended warranty.

Only the lawyers (SURPRISE!) received any actual monetary conpensation. A set of Acura RL take-offs on Ebay is still the lowest cost solution.

"Honda will continue to maintain its position that it does not support or encourage retrofitting PAX-equipped vehicles with non-PAX tires."

Eff Honda and Acura mightily on this. They could have easily provided an upgrade path once it was clear that PAX development was dead and the tires were difficult to find and overly expensive. Instead they continue to spout this B.S. that implies there's something wrong with putting different tires on the car.
