Need Real Time Help on dePAX tire selection

Sorry for the rush but I need to get tires and wheels TODAY.

I put my Tech Pkg 2006 RL in a ditch a week ago. The RR PAX tire had a 4" gash in it - NOT repairable. Body Shop finally quoted a price on 4 new PAX tires at $2k. NO THANK YOU.

So I am going to put new wheels and tires on the RL. I have read the posts here and understood the issues until I read about interference with the brake caliper. Arrghh!!!

I read about the offset and such but still don't know how to tell from specs if a new wheel will clear the brake caliper.

So my question is this: will the Tire Rack selection database be able to identify wheels that will clear the brake? What I am doing is lying to the website by saying I do NOT have a Tech Package and then selecting from the choices presented. Will this work? Are the brake clearance issues the same on the PAX and non-PAX versions of the RL?

TIA

That should work. Call them to be sure once you have selected a wheel tire package, get a fitment guarantee, and don't tell them it is a PAX car that you want to dePAX because there is a good chance they will shut you down.

Select the lightest wheel you can, considering price and design, and don't cheap out on the rubber.

In general, most that dePAX select 18 inch wheels because there are far more 245/45-18 tires out there than the narrow selection of 245/50-17. Also, your PAX wheels and tires are effectively 18's anyway.

19's and 20's are also popular, but way more expensive and heavy.

Just out of curiosity, what tires did you order, PAX?

Or did you order a complete set of new wheels and tires? If so, and you don't mind my asking, which ones?

Thanks

pax / 2009 wheels

If the 2009 Acura Rl OEMs (7 spoke) fit the PAX RLs would it make sense to just enter "2009 RL" in the websites to find replacement wheels (18')?

Or is the offset wrong still?

Thanks.

You are correct, he could enter 2009, and get proper results, but it is now a moot point since he has already ordered tires.

So, anyone else who has yet to post and about to ask PAX replacement again can go to tirerack or another company and enter "2009 Acura RL w/ 18 wheels" and all of the results should fit.
Seems easy enough to explain it that way.

I ordered a tires and wheels from Tire Rack. The cost for 4 mounted, balanced, with TPMS, delivered for $1520. Which is the price I was quaoted for THREE PAX tires!

What I ordered:

18x8.5 Light Grey Painted TRMotorsport C2
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ll&sort=Weight

Wheels are kind of plain, I know. But cost effective and light. Offset is pretty close to original.

245/45ZR18 Continental ExtremeContact DWS
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Tires - again, cost effective and light. Unusual tread pattern and highly rated on Tire Rack.

I will update once they are on the car.

I think you will notice a big difference with the lighter wheels and tires. Report back what 100 lbs less of unsprung weight does for you.

I picked up my RL today from the shop.

Good News: no problem with the fit of these wheels to the car. The tires themselves look nice. All TPMS sensors recognized by the car. And I was able to reset the PAX warning by following the directions in other posts.

Meh News: The wheels are ugly. I guess I knew that when I bought them. Maybe color match them to the gray of the car? Who knows.

I will post again after putting some miles on them.

I guess everyone already knows this, but THE PAX TIRES ARE FRIGGIN' HEAVY!!!

In other news, anyone want three PAX wheels and 3 intact tires? I'll make an even trade for a spare tire kit!
