It's PAX Replacement Time

For those who don't know, the RL is actually my dad's car. With that out of the way, after a solid 32,500 miles on the original PAX tires, it's finally time for replacement but unlike many here, my dad won't be deviating from the PAX system. Despite my encouragement to do so, the car has never had its alignment checked in the three years he's owned it and it seems he paid the price in a pretty rude way. I had a wheel off tonight to look at something else and this is what I found.

The car will not be driven until replacement tires can be acquired.

It's even worse because you can do this with it....

Hmmm...I have abut 42,000 on my original PAX tires with some tread still to go. I do keep it aligned, balanced and rotated on a regular basis though. I figure the cost of these is offset by the longer treadlife and safety.

Let us know the final cost when you're done.

I do not have PAX tires. My OEM Michelins have 30K on them.

Although it is difficult to tell from the angle of the pics, I would say my MXM4s have similar wear on tread depth. Also, I do not have the peeling of the tire compound from the belts, but the outer shoulder tread is worn nearly smooth.

I do have my tires rotated and alignment checked regularly. I assumed it was normal wear and somewhat a side effect of lighting up SHAWD.

I am planning too replace the tires before the rainy season (summer), but the choices are few...even without the PAX constraints.

So I took my rl 2007 to the dealer for rotate and oil change.. and they didn't do the rotate cuz they said my tires are balding.. the inside 1" on all 4 is worn.. funny cuz I thought my tires were good cuz the rest of the tread is still pretty decent. I was really surprised cuz I rotated every other oil change and maye 1 or 2 times consecutively.. My car drives straight, so I have no idea while ALL 4 have the exact same wear pattern.. it doesn't drive like it is unbalanced (not sure if one could feel this) or alignment is off.. I have 45,000 miles. I think I will go for another 10k miles.. I am not looking forward to the replacement cost.. I would never buy a pax tire again unless I can buy the Rolls Royce . then who cares, right..
