High Speed Vibrations...

I purchased my RL on Nov. 30 and shortly after noticed a definate steering wheel vibration that also echoes through the drivers seat. It only occurs and is very noticeable once I get close to 65+. I have taken it to the dealership 4 times and given different answers each time. At first my wife was told....thats its a sports car and thats just the way it handles. After driving for extended periods at highway speeds during christmas, it began to make me a bit sick. I let them have it for 5 days last week and they returned it to me with an additional 50 miles logged saying it was fixed and I shouldn't have anymore problems. They said they had numerous managers drive it and ALL came back that there was no problem. All they did was take out some of the tire pressure and drive it to try and mold the tires back to normal. It didn't work. The tire store told them that there was a flat spot on the left rear but it wasn't covered under waranty. It seems to me that since they had the car sit on their lot from April to Nov. it would be their problem. I am so fed up with it and tired of getting rehearsed answers. New cars shouldn't vibrate!!! Anybody experience this problem before? Since they are the only Acura dealership in town, I've been fairly calm trying to keep our relationship in tact, but I'm afraid things are about to change real soon.

Just a suggestion, because I really not qualified to know what is wrong with your car...my experience with what you have described, is that your tires are probably a bit out of balance. If there is a flat spot, try running the car for awhile and see if it doesn't eventually smooth out on its own...that is, if the tire isn't actually damaged in some way.

OT: I've just replaced my worn out OEM's, which didn't have too much of a vibration, with new Pilot Sports...and I now have a slight vibration at speeds over 65mph...my coffee thermos vibrates in the holder! And, it's not always noticeable...(shrug?)

At this juncture, I have no reason to suspect anything is wrong with the car and that the vibration is coming from the new tires. My experience with getting tires balanced, is that you have to find an individual/dealer that can properly balance tires and stick with them if possible. I've been lucky in that the Honda dealers I've been doing business with for several years, have always done the best balancing...say compared to the independent shops I've had to deal with in several states. Part of the problem with replacement tires is that tires purchased to replace the OEM's never ride as well as what came on the car...at least that's been my own personal experience in the main.

I got the confirmation that the service department did find flat spots on the tires. I think its funny that they gave me the car and told me that I would have to talk to the sales department to see what they can do since its not really a service issue. They are only about 20 steps away from dealing with it themselves and not getting me involved, but I called the front and after further discussion with my sales person and his managers, got a phone call from the parts department telling me new tires were being ordered free of charge. I sure hope this will fix it!! Thanks for your post!

FYI, all Acuras come with a free alignment within the first 12000 miles/12 mons. Be sure and get this even if you don't think you need it.

Where did you get this information about all Acuras coming with a free alignment within 12/12? It's not that I doubt you but I haven't seen or heard it anywhere else. I just want to have justification when I go to my dealer and they look at me like I'm on drugs for expecting something free from them. I'm still well within both limits and will take advantage of it after the potholes on the road around here are patched.

Really? I don't doubt you either, but I wonder whether this is dealer specific. My dealer sure doesn't talk about that stuff.
