Continental Extreme DW summer tires

got around 500 mi on these tires. Initially I felt like they weren't holding the road as well as my Continental Extreme DWS all seasons.

Then I started pushing them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftDl-zZWT30

now I realize that it's not the tires losing grip, but the chasis not being able to keep up.

The car seems to be leaning a lot more, or maybe I'm just going faster than usual, but the tires DO NOT let go.

I've been trying to find their limits but I don't think the RL is fast enough. In sharp U shaped turns the cars weight seems to be playing more of a role than the tires and stability control kicks in with the brakes and it gets a little funky, but still goes where you want it to.

my conclusion so far is that these tires have WAAAAYYYY more grip than RL can handle. I guess when it gets hotter, these will only get better.

If anyone else is running Conti Extreme DW let me know how they're working out for you.

037, what your experiencing describes what I experienced last year on my PS2's, however I believe it has more to do with a lower load rating of the tires than anything else.

taken from another site, written by a TireRack rep:

"the tire is put into a condition where it can support the car at a static rest point but, when driven aggressively the sidewalls are so over worked they can not properly control the contact patch of the tire allowing for excessive sidewall roll-over, irregular wear tread block and contact patch flex which robs the tires performance ability and grip. also the added flexing of the tire will increase the heat it generates which can make a tire feel really slippery .... A good way to understand this is: let's say I just put a 100lb. back pack on you .... you can stand there for quite a while (that's your car sitting in a parking lot) now go run up and down some stairs with that back pack .... (that's normal driving ) you can't do that very well, nearly as fast or for very long before your legs give out ...."

I have those on my winter wheel setup, I think they are the best all around all season tire bar none.

forgot to mention that the sidewall really protects the rims, I've whacked curbs at low speed and the rim never touched.

Don't have 500 miles on mine yet but it's a world of difference compared to my old Kuhmo's. Much smoother and no tramlining! It's been cold as hell with snow in Cleveland so the RL has been sitting in the garage on the new Continentals. Can't wait for it to warm up!

OEM load isn't 96 on the 09+ RL is it? I am only familiar with what's required for the 05-08 RL.

load rating should be the same for 09 as it is for 05-08. But I was showing you the two tires between which I noticed the difference in handling and they have the exact same load. I used stock MXM4s for about 2 days. One day when I got the car and 2nd day when I took them off.

I had MXM4's on 3 of my cars, one was brand new. As far as handling, they are garbage. As far as soft ride and good mileage...very good.

So...I need the handling.

btw, I hit a record of 21.5MPG over 170mi on my DW's today, was pretty excited about that. Could be because I was running em 36psi cold all around.

I doubt it. I got DWS on mine and had it for about 6000 miles. Excellent so far. I went with 'S' even though i'm in south. Just in case it starts snowing here......
