From Type-SH to SH-AWD...NBP RL Tech

I finally got around to cleaning up the RL and taking some proper, (non iPhone), pictures of her. I'm going to use this as a build thread too so I'll update as mods slowly come. First, here's a picture of my previous car. 1998 Honda Prelude Type-SH. Lot's of mods. I owned it for almost 8 years. She will be missed.

Traded it in for a NBP 2006 RL Technology Package on 8/20/2011.

Here is a picture from the dealership the night I picked it up.

Here are some better pictures after cleaning it up nicely with the Turtle Wax Black Box kit.

I do not claim to be a good photographer BTW.

I don't have too many plans for it but here's the short list:

-19" wheels
-A-Spec suspension, (if it doesn't already have it)
-Back-up camera
-Mediabridge
-Yellow HID fogs
-LED conversion
-Tint amber signals in headlights
-Intake/exhaust, (maybe)
-Find a spare tire for it

I'm sure I'll want to do more to it. Just pretty satisfied with it as it is now.

I also need to be looking for a new race car since my brother and I both sold our race cars for comfy daily driving Acuras.

Nice pick up!

Thanks for the pics, especially of the rear. I have been wanting to make a comparo of the Aspec rear lip vs OEM bumper for a while now. If you don't mind, I would love to use your pics.

Go for it.

I talked to a buddy of mine who is a semi-pro photographer. We are going to take some nice pictures at sunset tomorrow. Should be sweet.

The pictures are kind of deceiving, but appears as though you already have the A-spec suspension. Nice choice, any plans to auto-x it?

Definitely won't be autocrossing it. It won't be good at it and I don't want to mangle the front end and sideskirts with cone marks. My brother and I looking at getting an 89 Civic Si for that.

My A-Spec wheels/tires will probably be for sale in the spring if you haven't replaced yours by then.

Wow, the difference between the iPhone shot and the camera shots are substantial! How was the paint before the detail? It looked pretty bad in the first pic but I dont know if that was due to the quality of the pic or the paint...

I would've avoided buying that car but after seeing the after-detail pics...I really should start giving those cars a look!

It looked bad in the first picture because it was an iPhone picture at night and it had rained during the day so the car wasn't squeaky clean. I had seen it a couple days before and knew the paint was fine. The Black Box kit definitely does a good job at making NBP look really nice too.

Thanks guys. I really want to go lower but I'm a bit hesitant for a couple reasons. One, I don't want it to affect the range and usability of the ACC/CMBS system. Secondly, like RTR said, I don't like the idea that the A-Spec kit makes the back end lower than the front.

Acura designed the Aspec setup, and some cars have left the factory with it. I don't think they would use it if the saw an issue with the ACC or CMBS. Now if you get Tien CS and drop 2"+ I could see issues arising, but Aspec is less than 1" I believe.

A couple updates. Winter came quickly and I didn't have time to find a suitable set of 17" OEM wheels for winter tires so I had to go with something cheap. Car is currently rocking 17" Drag DR34's in hyper black and 235/55/17 Hankook W300 IceBear winter tires. This is just a temporary setup. I'm keeping my eyes out for a reasonably priced set of OE 17's for next winter. I'm not at all a fan of the wheels but they clean easily and they cost me hardly anything even with an extra set of TPMS sensors and lug nuts.

I also went on an LED/HID bulb spree that started with ordering some LED bulbs for the license plate lights. I couldn't stand looking at the dull yellow color on the back of the car anymore. Once those were installed I ended up ordering the bulbs to change out all the interior lights. Then tonight I ordered a 6000K HID kit for the fog lights.

Just checking stuff off the list. Next will be having the center armrest recovered with leather, (got a quote from a local shop for $70). Backup camera is also on the short list along with a MediaBridge kit. I haven't decided if I'm just going to go with the OEM backup camera or do a NavTool with video integration for my iPhone.

I'll post some lighting pictures once I have everything installed. Stay tuned.

On your winter setup, are those 17x8 or 17x8.5 ? I'm asking because I am putting on 225/55/17 Hankook I*cepts on the OEM 17x8 rims and everyone advised me against 235/55/17 so i bought the narrower tires. Wish I could have gone with 235s though but I did not want to change my rims.

They're 17x7.5, another thing I don't like about them. I didn't go with 225's because I didn't want to lose nearly an inch of contact patch. I don't know why anybody would advise against the 235's. They're a little bigger than the stock rolling diameter but they work just fine.

Last week was our 3rd or 4th snow thus far in Denver. By far the heaviest too. We had a good 14" at my house but I live near the foothills and we typically see a few more inches than the rest of the metro area.

Battery died in the RL yesterday. I knew it was coming because of the power telescoping issues. Having run Optima Red Tops in my Prelude and our TL and never always being happy with the performance I decided to get one. $135+tax after a $50 off coupon. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

An iPhone picture I took this morning on top of a parking garage at the doctor's office. Car is dirty since the snow still hasn't melted from the last couple storms. Looks like there's more snow blowing in over the mountains too.

They're the same size. I think it's a combination of the camera angle and the dirtier front wheels.

Nice

How does the RL with snow tires compare to a FWD car ???

I am considering a used RL instead of a TL ..
