Roy Cya's RL with mods - Complete!

Guys,

this is my humble attempt at making the RL mine (unique). I just had it lowered literally a few hours ago, which means it will settle down even more but not that much. Please feel free to comment or recommend...

Here she is!!!!

That's it! Simple, yet NOT understated... Comments welcome...

I like the wheels.

Thanks again guys!

Details:

Exhaust - 5zigen
Rims - Ace Strada (hyper black), 19x8.5
Tires - Falken Fk452 245/40-19
Springs - H&R 1.5/1.4

I think overall it came out the way I wanted it to. I was looking to improve the stance and the handling, and after driving the local "twisties" I believe, no I know, I've accomplished that.

Nice to see another Celestial Silver that is styling.

Isn't that exhaust fun? That deep exhaust note is very appealing.

Do you like your H&R springs? Have you had other brands of springs on other cars that you can compare? I've heard from different sources that the H&R springs are more "rough" than some others like Comptech or Eibach. Nice car by the way...

I do like H&R! They do a great job and might be harsh, but that's fine with me. I'm sure others looking for "softer" lowering springs would like them too since my wife has not even noticed... This is my third car with H&Rs and I like them! I've used Eibachs in the past but I did not like their "lowering" numbers... Whether they were harder or softer I could never really tell. You'd almost want to do a blind test just to make sure...

Thanks!

If the wife didn't notice, I guess that passed the test, eh? H&R will be on the top of my list of my future suspension upgrade.. other than TEIN.. ASPEC lowers too little for me.

This is exactly why I chose H&R, plus they were readily available.

Wheels

Roy,
Did the Ace wheels fit fine on your RL? Or did you need some modifications? i'd like to get different wheels, but have a hard time finding ones that fit, other than Ronjon. Do I need to look for a certain offset, as well as, 5x120 pattern?

vektro,

no mods were necessary whatsoever. That was part of my criteria as well. The wheel details are as follow:

size 19x8.5
bolt pattern is 5x120
offset is +38
the did come with a hub ring (64.1), which is very common.

Good luck, and thanks.

Roy,

Thanks for the info. I like what you have done.

1. Any vibrations or other oddities with the hub ring, as has been reported with the Ron Jon Legend with 3mm spacer (which I realize is not exactly the same as a hub ring)

2. Any TPMS issues?

3. Any alignment issues?

Thanks!

3. I am assuming no clearance issues?

Chas2,

that is a BIG !! There are still no vibrations or oddities. I had the fellows install new TPMS' and noticed not one issue with that either. Alignment is coming up next Monday but so far, no problems there; I just want to make sure it is spot on. Clearance? Not an issue! I swear it looks better every time I look at it. Today, as a matter of fact, I gave her some TLC and she is shinning like there is no tomorrow!!!!!! I LOVE IT!

Thanks for the compliments.

Hi Roy! Car looks SWEET! Glad to see you finally landed the rims. Love the lowering job. You didn't go with the Sport Engine wheels huh? Regardless, those look NICE!

Jay,

long time no speak! I could not get my hands on a complete set of Hyper Black 5zigen wheels for the life of me!!! I went local, chain, web sites, etc with NO luck...

So what did I do? I went for the "other" ones I liked a LOT and were readily available. They do look very nice and classy on the car, if I may say so my self... I think overall the combination of the wheels and the lowering really brings out the lines of the RL. Simply BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks,

Where did you buy/have springs installed? How "harsh" is the ride? It's a little more important to me, but if Touge can't get the RSR springs imported from Japan, I need other options.

I bought the springs from Tire Rack, and installed them at a friend's shop. I helped him a bit and he charged me only $150. Not bad, eh?

It's not that hard but you really need the right tools, and about 3 hours, assuming one knows what one's doing. I can see it last twice as long if not paying attention or inexperienced. The ride is taught but not harsh. Again, if it was too harsh my wife would have complained. I like the ride because of the "feedback" I get from the road and the quick response. I may be biased because this is the 3rd car I've onwed with H&R, the last one being a 7-series; it handled like a go kart!

Maybe you can go on vacation here in Orlando and take a test drive to get a feel for it...

Tire Rack, not bad at all. I'll take a look. My options may be few and I definitely want the car lowered....

Jay,

by the way, H&R just came out with a coilover set for our cars... I was ready to go that route if the spring set didn't work out. I like the idea of adjustables even if pricey... I really like how everything came out and saved some money while at it...

Ooooh, $1550 though...I'll probably just do the springs, less than $300 for those.

Better get on that man! You won't regret it, it's a very worthwhile mod. Touge always said it was the best bang for the buck.... Now that my "wife" is driving the RL most of the time, the lower is highly unlikely for mine.... She likes the RIDE, so coilovers might HAVE to happen if I ever want to see my RL dropped....

so does anyone know how low the Acura spec setup makes the car versus this setup from H&R?

the H&R springs are JUST springs that go with the OEM shocks. if you go aspec, though, you are getting springs AND shocks right? or does the aspec kit have sway bars too?

i like the look of this setup shown in these photos - but would really rather get something that has factory warranty...like aspec....

anyone know what handles better?

A-spec drops about .75" all around, far less than H&R. No sway bars, only shocks and springs.

That is awesome! I've been looking for someone in my patch to "share" with! I actually live on the west end of OC, towards Mt. Dora. Lets see if we can meet some time in the near future.
