Cleveland RL mini-meet 3/8/09

Unfortunately, it rained, but 037 and I met at my house this morning, me a bit tired from the time change. His HID changes were pretty nice, though it's hard to tell from the pictures. He'll be adding his own pictures later, but in the meantime here are mine. Pics are resized for the forum.

Yup, 037 was passing through on his way home to NYC. My Canon Powershot S3IS didn't hold a candle to his DSLR, though, so I can't wait for his pics.

LOL at wanting me to put a kit on!

Indeed, these are better comparo pictures than my last try, which was very hurried and at the dealer.

I am glad you made it home safely. Did it rain all the way to NYC?

Yes, it actually rained for the first 5 hours of my trip. Visibility was give or take 200 feet, cops didn't even fire radar guns point blank as they seemed useless :-)

The conditions were terrible, and whatever AZ does to post pictures kills whatever your camera has anyway...I might upload one photo just to illustrate.

And Bob, nice to see some more photos of your RL.. I definitely like your set up, and the A-Spec looks like the perfect balance the more I see it. And IF you end up getting a kit, you got the nice exhaust to stick out the back which would look super agressive...

037 The rear of your style is definitely hot... I think you need a lil bit a tint on those windahs... Who knew 50% tint could look so dark on Bob's ride, too....

is it an illusion or is the 09 look a bit larger than the previous 2nd gen? What is the measurement for the 09 compare to the rest of the 2nd gen RL?

The 2009 RL is slightly larger in its exterior dimensions by 2.2 in length and a scant .1 in in height. The width, track, wheelbase remain the same.

I bet the 2.2" came from the plastic front and rear bumper.... cuz I sat in the new RL and the dimension did not change at all.... they do have little changes here and there that are throughtful, handles on the door arm rest, USB, use accessary steering wheel, seat cooling, etc.... But I like our head rest better (softer)

I haven't made a final decision yet, mostly because I am not usually one to go the conspicuous spending route--the RL is perfect for me as it's the "anti-bling".

However, as much as I enjoy my RL, the idea of having a four-door Corvette in my garage AND a nice, high-revver like the S2000 is simply too good an idea to turn down.

Decisions, decisions....but that's another thread for another board.

I assumed you would be trading in the S2000

LOL, probably not. The V is so low-key that I don't think anyone will notice it outside, especially if I buy it in silver or Thunder Gray. The wife still won't give up her spot in the garage except if she divorces me, and maybe not even then.

Hellz, no!

I can't believe I'm having such a hard time with a decision! This tells you how happy I am with the RL. Today, I'm convinced that I'm not going to go through with this. Yesterday, I was going to call the dealer and put down a deposit. Tomorrow I may think differently.

It was a lot easier deciding to buy the RL. After the second test drive, I was hooked, made my decision, and found it was an easy one.

Bob, so you would no longer have AWD? Is the Caddy RWD or AWD?

Also, the car bug must be hitting you pretty hard to wanna give up (acura commercial guy voice) Thee Acura AR-L... But can I get some parts of it? I know Blazing wants the exhaust I think, but I'd grab the suspension or back-up cam. Or you selling it as is... IF you are saying good-bye to Acura.

The V is RWD only and no rearview camera . The base CTS is RWD or rear-biased AWD. Don't want the regular CTS , the whole point of the V is the 556 hp supercharged engine and magnetic ride control, ala Corvette/Ferrari. Also, no tilt side mirrors on reverse. The tilting side mirrors and rearview camera are NICE features of the RL, makes backing up so easy.

If I sell (and again, I am <50% likely to do it right now, so don't get your hopes up TOO much), I plan to part out my original wheels and the exhaust. The A-Spec suspension and wheels will stay with the car. If it's too much trouble to remove the intake, I'll just leave it in. If it happens, I'm sure to make some sort of announcement.

I apoligize for the AWD comment, that came straight off www.cars.com where they let you customize it in awd trim. Maybe I'm crazy or maybe they referred to the regular...

Yes, I have talked to several owners who daily drive their V. They just put snow tires on their 19's,leave the Stabili-Trak on (works surprisingly well putting all that power to the ground!), and they rock on! I'd have to do the same.

037, cars.com's configurator is definitely incorrect. Further, GM currently has no plans for an AWD V. AWD would be a terrible decision anyway. The car is already 4300 pounds with automatic and moonroof. The Caddy AWD system adds more than 200 pounds. The base weight is already more than our heavy RLs!

If only Acura had released the Mugen V8 Legend Max over here, I wouldn't be having these lecherous thoughts about the V. It was 590 hp and RWD. I would have stood in line and paid MSRP for this.
