This is also a function of your area's reporting system: local highway sensors and official reportage have to travel upstream to NavTraffic before they come back down to you.

Personally, it works pretty well in my area, but I'd note that my wife's Droid-phone has free navtraffic that's much more realtime than that in our RL and it includes major surface streets, too. We'll keep ours because it's darn handy on long runs and periodically saves me grief on the local commute.

Yes but the Nav traffic does not automatically re-route me? it just put me directly into the traffic, is this an issue.

Right, you have to get a newer system such as comes in the TL, and ZDX. It can do some rerouting, but not much, and not very well, and not automatically, but selecting different route types.

I have the new system in the MDX and I would give it a 5 out of 10. I gave my RL a 2 out of 10 and therefore I cancelled Nav traffic. I states as "real-time" but the system is too slow to give live information. I agree it's not the system, it's the source of data. It would be great if it competed with the phone apps, radio, internet or TV but the only system that is not free is the worst available to us.

I do my own re-routing, just by using the map. It's not perfect, but when the time came to renew, I had no question.
