XM reads "updating"

Have an 2006 RL. All of the sudden my XM radio says "updating" and none of the channels. I called XM once to resend the signal and that did not work.

Called them again and they said to take my car back to the dealer. Any idea on what could be happening? I can only listen to chanels 01 and 247.

I've had this problem before. It happenned several times over a 2 or 3 week period. If the car was off for an hour or so, the problem went away. Since then, have not had the problem again.
I say give it a day or two before taking to dealer.

Try disconnecting the battery for about a half hour and then reconnecting it. Sometimes 'rebooting' the car should reset the unit.

Have an appointment at the dealer on Wednesday morning. At this point, I am fine with having them take a look to tell me how to fix this in the future should it happen again.

This happened to me when I was experiencing NavTraffic issues (search back a month or so). It would say "Updating" and then tune into a specific channel. I can't remember which it was, but it wasn't channel 1. I think it was 65. No rhyme or reason for it. It kind of looked like it was in some sort of loop.

I disconnected the battery for a minute or so and reconnected. Hasn't reoccurred since then.

I'm beginning to think that XM occasionally sends out signal that causes the receiver to go haywire.

XM customer service was worthless.

not always - when I had the problem, it would stay in the update state for at least 45 minutes as long as I was driving the car. Even if I stopped and turned car off for less than 15 minutes or so, it remained in update mode.

Would only "fix itself" if I turned car off for extended time. As I indicated earlier, this kept happening off and on over a period of a couple weeks. By the time I had a regular maintenance appt at Dealer, problem went away and has not returned.

Same with me. It kept happened when I drove my son to hockey practice, which was a 20 minute drive. We were in practice for two hours, and then it continued for the 20 minute drive back. It only stopped after I disconnected the battery.
