Xm Is F_ing Useless

So my car was parked at the airport from Wednesday > Thursday, and when I returned my XM was in "LOADING..." mode.

Now, over 48 hours later, NAVTRAFFIC still doesn't work.

XM's response? "Uh, we don't know."

As an XM customer for the past 4 1/2 years, I am absolutely without question more pissed off at these morons than any other service provider. And to be honest, what the hell are they going to do? Refund my $3.50/month NavTraffic fee?

I'd like to rip out my entire XM module and shove half of it up XM's ass, with the other half going right into the skull of Acura's engineering people.

So, how do you REALLY feel? Just kidding.

The only problem I've run into with my XM was the morons" you mention, who insisted on terminating my service a couple of times until I got my dealer to convince them I got a year of service "free".

It sounds like you have a receiver problem, so a trip to the dealer appears to be in your future ...

The question is - would a receiver problem just come up after everything was fine for the past 16 months, or is this more of an XM broadcast problem ?

If the car is still under warranty, then it wouldn't hurt to get a new receiver.

It's possible, I had my RL for just under a year when I had to have my radio replaced to cure a similar problem. Visit the dealer, that my very well be the problem.

I'm hardly an expert on satellite radio, but if you are losing signal in the same areas where you had a signal before, it would seem to mean either that the satellite itself has failed, or that the repeater serving that area has failed, or that your receiver has failed.

Of those three, it's far more likely the receiver has crapped out. I would think that - like any electronic device - the receiver could quit working after doing fine for months.

What's it doing now?

Thanks everyone.

Basically the situation is that whenever I park the car for a couple of days in a place without service (i.e. airport parking garage) the radio will reset to channel 1. On Thursday it was more severe, whereby XM was "LOADING..." for my 15 minute drive home (XM audio was fixed by turning off the car for 5 mins).

However, XM NavTraffic is still not working. It thinks it's working (i.e. my navigation has the traffic "zones") but there is no traffic flow nor are there incidents within 30 miles.

Basically been the same situation for the past 4 days.

Josh,

Copy and paste this link to your browser and follow the steps outlined - it worked for me on 3 different occasions when Navi Traffic reported no incidents for 30 miles (Agree 100%, XM customer service is very bad):

http://www.xmradio.com/refresh/

Let me know if this worked for you.

Final Update: The second XM-driven refresh (they sent two at a time on Saturday night) appears to have "stuck." While I had no traffic information on a 40-minute drive on Sunday afternoon, after turning the car off for 3 hours and driving home my traffic flow and incident data was functioning again.

What a pain in the ass...
