Will an 06 or later Nav unit work in an 05?

Will an 06 or later Nav unit work in an 05?
My Nav unit is dying a slow death. I can't decide to have it taken out and sent to Alpine (who will fix it for $158) or just have it replaced at the dealer. If I have it replaced, does anyone know if I can get it replaced with an 06 or later unit that would support an ipod?
