Well now 4.62 DVD release is delayed until "summer"

Just got off of the phone. Another "glitch" has delayed the release again.
Look for "summer" whatever that means.

Now this is BS (not you, I mean the continued delays)! I wonder what the delay THIS time is? eBay, here I come!

This why I gave up waiting and bought a 4.55 disc for my 2005 RL on eBay for $70. It'll keep me as current as I need to be for some time to come.

Telco today (4-16-2008) with "AcuraNavi" (?) 888-549-3798; Update disk, v4.56 is expected by July, 2008. Being remade because it didn't work with systems earlier than 2008. (Am simply reporting! Do I believe? Mmmm, not really.)

By July RL here will be 2.5 years without Nav update. If owner fleet still cares I'd expect a "run" on disks in July.

Nav & DVD systems have been LESS than expected.

I don't believe them. It'll be delayed until fall at this rate.

So long as it is the white 4.62, I don't think there is a difference.

Arrow Rdx Dvd Ok

I got a 4.62 RDX DVD and it seems to work fine in my RL. I have a question though: I ended up with some kind of diagnostic mode the second time I fired up the new DVD (the first time, it went through the update apparently without problem). Is it normal to get such diagnostic screen after an update? I have used the car a few times since then and it has not appeared again.

No, and if you search, there is a way sequence of buttons to push to get out of the diagnostic screen. If you have not had the issue again, you should be good to go.

BTW, I put the same DVD in my neighbor's TL and it worked fine. He did not even get the diagnostic screen, that seems to be a peculiarity of the RL. I must say I did like the neighbor's touchscreen though...

If anyone is really interested in downloading just do a search in Google for Acura 4.62 DVD. A bunch of Torrent sources are shown.

Disc version 4.62 works fine on my 07 RL (with 06DVD nav unit)

This was a major upgrade for my Nav unit. Until this upgraded disc, most of the rural roads in my area on the Eastern Shore of Maryland were not verified. With the new disc, all of the roads in my area are verified. This makes a big difference as.... if a road isn't verified the nav unit avoids it like the plague.

it does take a little longer to load, but once it boots, it works perfectly.

I have an 05 RL and remember people saying that if you had never upgraded from the 4.13 original disk that the 4.62 disk would not work, did that turn out to be the problem or was the 4.62 disk problematic even if you had upgraded to the 4.55 and then went to the 4.62
I picked up a 4.55 on ebay and wonder about the 4.62 download in the above threads.

Not sure what the official word ever was as to why they stopped shipping the 4.62 discs. Some of the people here at the forum who got the disc ran into a minor issue with the upgrade in that the NAV system went into diagnostic mode right after the upgrade. But that was a really minor problem and I posted instructions from the shop manual on how to exit the diagnostic mode. As larrynimmo mentioned, version 4.62 does seem to take a few seconds longer to get going on start up, but its not really a huge deal.

If you go for the bit torrent mentioned above you'll need a dual layer DVD disk (the file is ~7GB in size) , Nero, and burn at the slowest speed of either 2x or 2.4x otherwise you'll end up with a coaster. If your current burner doesn't support those slow speeds, get a different one (you can read about why if you search the 3rd Gen TL forums for the post about this). Basically, the file burn to disc needs to be an identical 1:1 copy with all clusters in the identical spots on the disc as the original. Most burners dont do this properly at higher burn speeds.

Wink v4.62 disc "access"

Just an idea: If your RL is in for service and you just "happen" to get a new loaner that has the v4.62 "white disc" (08 TL for example), and you just "happen" to have a DL-DVD burner.....

If you download 4.62 via Bit Torrent (which I am doing now,) do you have to burn onto a white blank DVD? I know you have to burn onto a dual-layer (DL) DVD and I know that my DVD burner on my computer can do that, but I cannot find any white blanks at the stores - all I found was Memorex DVD+R DLs and they are silver in color.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but my wife told me she thought she saw somewhere that it had to be a white DVD, even if you downloaded it and burned it yourself.

(In case it makes a difference, I have a 2005 RL. We bought it used recently and the dealer where we bought it assured us that the nav disc was in the car. It isn't and we are in the process of trying to get them to make good on their promise, but I just wanted to get a disc and see if the system worked. As it stand right now, I can't even adjust my digital clock without a nav disc, which is very frustrating...)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

No, it does not have to be white. The white is just to help visually identify that the disc has software compatible with the nav system. If you look on the Alpine site, you will see various colors depending on which vehicle. White works for the RL, RDX, MDX, TL (07-08), TSX (06-08, no idea about 09) but to my knowledge, did not work with pre 2006 and earlier TL, and 2005 and earlier TSX which used the orange disc. I believe the RL was the first out with the white disc, and continues to use the white series.

bird jam...with the 4.62 being iffy on the 05, I would suggest you shop ebay for a used 3.31 or 3.55 or 3.56 white updates as they are readily available. Just last week i sold a 3.31 for $35 including shipping on ebay.

Yeah, I've seen that there may be problems with it - but while there is still a chance the dealer will get me a disc (since they promised me it had one,) I don't want to spend any money on anything yet. I just want to see if the thing works. If the dealer refuses to help me out - which I am betting they will refuse to do so, based on everything that has happened so far - then I will probably just break down and buy one.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

OK, thanks everyone, but the dealership came through with version 4.56, and it works so I am happy even if it is not the newest version. Thanks again though.

I downloaded and burned the widely available TL version of 4.62 just for chuckles. Doesn't work. The software loads, I get the diagnostic screen, I follow the instructions to get out, and I get an empty map. No streets, no nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? I downgraded to my current 4.31 disc and all is well.

I'll be waiting to buy the next version when it is released in the fall. Teaches me not to trust torrents, I guess.

The Torrent file works. Its just takes the right burner (the Pioneer DVR-215, for example), dual media disc (such as a Memorex DL-DVD) and a slow burn at 2.4x to get a working disc.

I used the Memorex DL-DVD, that's all I ever buy because it works so well on my Macs, and I burned at 2x with my aftermarket Pioneer burner. Will try it again, I guess.

Ordinarily I wouldn't use a torrent and I plan to buy the next upgrade if it eventually appears, but I'm EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the slow pace of upgrades for the navi. I originally ordered mine ten months ago and technical issues have kept the release from happening in a timely fashion.

I'm in the same boat - ordered the 4.62 release last Fall - after sending it back and numerous "promises" of a new release, I'm very upset.

You would think Acura would be concerned about customer dissatisfaction and push Alpine to take care of the problem in a timely manner. Apparently they are not!! This isn't "rocket science".

my car is an oddity, (i have an 07 RL with an 06 DVD nav drive) my car runs the 4.62 flawlessly (other than slower startups) I get the impression that 4.62 runs well on 06's and 07's but stumble on 05's. Not that I don't care about 05 owners, but they should release the 4.62 to the newer owners and hopefully get back on track in October when they release 4.75 (or what ever)

I expect they did not fully regression test the 4.62 DVD with the obviously different versions of the NAVI flash. That seems to have opened a can of worms for Acura Tech Support.

It truly surprises me that they have not released the updated DVD. After the AcuraLink messaging issue I experienced, it became VERY apparent to me, that Acura has few knowledgeable resources on the configuration management of this technology. The approach was to replace NAVI units rather than reflash the memory with a version that worked. It was truly trial and error.

I am also hoping the next DVD release will offer opportunities to upgrade into newer XM functionality, specifically XMWeather. Not that I expect it to be complimentary, but if Acura figures out how to track the flash versions of our NAVIs and what capability they have, then they have a revenue opportunity. Offering flash memory uprades to earlier RL owners would bring some $$$ Service Centers. It also would enable XM to sell us subscriptions to additional services ie XMWeather). Then we just have to plug in the newest DVD disc.

FWIW, 4.62 stumbled on my 06 with a VIN in the 11000 range, but it was only a dump into the diagnostic screen, then it worked OK after that (not counting the mess I made with microphone levels)

Acura 4.63 NAV DVD

Looks like it's out. A quick search on the TL forums seems to indicate that 2009 TSXs come with the 4.63 disc and that its compatible on the 2008 TLs.

Anyone tried with the RLs yet? (especially the 05s?)

My mini courier should deliver in approximately 7hrs before my restlessness goes nova.

4.63 Nav disk Update

So my digital courier arrived finally this morning and after a quick 1x burn on a dual layer +R, I went out for a test.

For my 05 unit, I still got the dreaded "splash screen <--> reboot" loop.

It would make sense since the 4.63 is probably just a POI update over the 4.62.

Anyone have any news about when a possible 4.7 or above might be released?
