Voice input to nav

Ok, I have owned the car for two or three months now, I can't believe I havn't asked this or figured it out myself yet (completely forgot).

When I was in the dealer the other day looking at the MDX I overheard a sales person telling somebody you could talk to the nav to put the full address you want to go to without having to use the knob. I vaugly remember this from even before I bought the RL.

So, without flaming me (for not knowing) how exactly do you do this? Just push the voice button and say the street name (in the address input screen)?

i think you need to say each letter invidiually. so push button, say one letter, car finds leter, rinse repeat. this is a very slow process.

Not really. You just say the name of the town, street, etc and it gives a list of the towns or streets it thinks most closely match what you said. You then have to chose one of those. It isn't difficult and worth learning unless you have some accent that it has difficulty with. I haven't had any problems.

If I had to spell everything out, I wouldn't use it either.

So when at the address input screen I can just say a street name correct? I don't need to be in any other special menu. If it is like that - speaking a whole street then that is awesome. I can't believe I forgot about that feature.

If I'm not mistaken, you would need to spell out the address letter by letter. Although, I haven't read the entire nav book as of yet.

I've used it speaking the name of the city, followed by the name of the street, followed by the digits one by one (the hardest part). You can also speak the intersection of two streets.

After speaking the city name or street name, it gives a list of closest matches. Most of the time the street I was trying to get is the first choice in th e list.

Very cool feature...

You can also speak the entire number, so if the number was 3248, you could say 3,2,4,8 all at one time.

Just went out and tried it again to verify. You can do it both ways -- full name or letter by letter spelling. If it doesn't understand me for the full name, then I use the spelling method. You need to understand how to change from name input to spelling. You also have to be careful to understand whether it is asking you for state, city, street, or number which are all separate, sequential inputs. It assumes current state and city unless you change them.

I have found that it understands me most of the time and that the correct choice is usually on the first screen of alternatives it gives me for a match. (As opposed to my Honda Odyssey which rarely understands the audio input). It does take some time to get used to it. However, it is one of the few systems that I feel safe using while driving with the audio inputs because I don't have to continually look at the screen.

When the map is displayed you say "menu" then when the menu comes up say "address" then say "city" or "street" then simply say the city or street. then a list of streets/cities will appear and say which number it is. just follow the prompts. very easy
