Verizon Does Not Support AcuraLink
Verizon Does Not Support AcuraLink
Just recently purchased a 2006 RL. A couple months ago I upgraded my current phone to a Motorola E815 with the Blue Tooth with Verizon Wireless. The HandsFreeLink setup went flawlessly. Phone communicates with the car and I can see both the signal strength and battery meter on the instrument panel. However, I went on to the next step of setting up the AcuraLink and could not complete the process.
I contacted Acura and I got the following message, "Thank you for visiting acura.com and for your inquiry regarding HandsFreeLink. Since Verizon has disabled this feature for their network, you will not be able to use the off board diagnostics. Please feel free toexpress your opinion to Verizon regarding this matter."
Any advise

I had it working with an E815 BEFORE I had the Acura Link Control Unit swapped for XM delay issues. Now, I cannot get it to work at all using the same method. I called ACS and since they do not offically support Verizon, I was told (in so many words) that I am SOL.

ACS is so stupid. Little do they know that the 6256i supports all the bluetooth functions so we could add the $5/month data plan and acuralink could work, but they are too stupid to know that and obviously don't care. IMO they should have integrated acuralink to be able to work with our bluetooth phone or through the onstar handsfreecalling service.
I finally called Verizon Technical support again and we found the fix>
Besides just having basic cell service with Verizon I also had to add the $4.99/mo Mobile Web feature with allowed me to connect up to AcuraLink.
So with a Motorola E815, Verizon Service WITH Mobile Web I entered the following in the Acura Link setup prompts:
Name: Verizon
Dial String: #777
Username: 123456789@vzw3g.com (your phone number, with area code, ten numbers total with no "1" at the beginning, all case sensitive)
Password: vzw (case sensitive)
Thanks for everyones help. Hopefully I will finally start getting some messages, tips, etc., in the days ahead.

BTW, did they comment about the solution you used -- i.e., the information below?

I always thought it was a "back door" solution that Verizon didn't want to get out.

Also, AFAIK, Mobile Web is also included with Verizon's new VCAST service. So, for another $10/month, you could be getting access to streaming video clips from CNN, NBC, ESPN, Nickelodeon, etc. on the newer phones (the Moto E815 included).
