Upcoming OnStar feature

If Acura is serious about developing an XM based system to compete with OnStar, they better take note.

Cool feature, but I have to admit it is a little disconcerting that someone can have THAT much remote access over my vehicle. Very Orwellian.

Also take note of the sublink in the article about the new CTS. A lot of gushing going on.

Can the authorities turn your car off if you don't subscribe? If you don't subscribe then unplug the unit.
Conclusion: Don't plan on a car chase in a GM vehicle, there are plenty of other brands available.

Ha, I'm almost looking forward to someone turning of my car because I didn't subscribe to OnStar. I'll be famous! CNN, Fox, People Magazine, I can see it now. In other words, no.

I don't plan on unplugging anything. I still have the trial membership that was never activated. When I push the button it will connect me. Good to have 'just in case'.

And to think people beat me up because I pointed out awhile back that OnStar has the ability to listen in on in-car conversations and track your movements.

Hell, now they'll be able to shut your engine down by flipping a switch. The next (baby) step is reporting you to the police if you go more than 5 mph over the speed limit. Orwellian, indeed!

Booo! Out, out damned OnStar!
