speakers in the doors..
Hi..Took the door panels today to see what kind of speakers make the audio so bad in the Legend (2009)
sound is way under average..will post on this later.. i was planning on changing the speakers and buying new..2 options are in play.. take the speakers (4x polk MM6) from my s2000 since its too loud of a car (exhaust and all) and install them in the legend and put a 1 sub in..(i have 2x polk MM10 in the s2000)
Or buy new Scan speak http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com...roduct&id=1842
that i am in love with from my 2 way system i have..the Bass from this midwoofer puts to shame many subs..
anyway i want to tell you that the doors dont have any sound deadening in it..its plan metal sheet on the doors and no dampening of anykind..so a dynamat extrime is in order...
just sharing pictures since i couldnt find any on the forum..
by the way speakers in the doors arent 17cm and the wires are too thin to be reused..
there is some size difference between the Momo and the scanspeak..but its 1cm.. there is a pic where the momo is over the scan speak so you can see the difference..Attachment 9147
Attachment 9148
hope i will help someone..

First off, thank you! We have almost zero information on the speakers in this car. Could you try and measure the resistance of a speaker? There are rumors floating around that the RL uses 2 ohm speakers, but I don't think we have confirmation.
To your point about blocking sound, Dynamat is the wrong material for your purpose. Dynamat is a constrained layer dampener (CLD) that absorbs vibrations and turns their kenetic energy into heat. Unless you are worried about vibrations, what you want to block noise is a mass loaded vinyl barrier. Dynamat will help a little, but will be a waste of money compared to a MLVB when it comes to road noise and acoustic interference.

I'm interested in the impedance as well. The unfortunate part is I think the speakers are part of the issue but the output from the amp is the root cause.
Definitely keep us posted.

Dynamat extrime i will use to get the Door metal surface resonance free as possible..i will dampen the door with it, and put acustic foam over it to dampen the Door volume.. since newer speakers will have more power, and more energy pushing trough the door space i will need to dampen it..
about the speakers..i dont think the amp is the problem...since try to push the volume knob to 40 it works fine..no real distorsion on the speaker side..no real sound quality change compared to lower volumes..just its low quality.. i have to push the bass settings to -5,-6 and push the trebble to +2 ,+3 to get it bearable.. and put the sub to +4 +5...
if you leave the audio on all 0 settings..and try to listen to any music..it will sound worse than any car..
mostly when you push higher volumes and the amp isnt coping it will start distorting the sound source..trough the speakers..but if you have enough power than sound wont change but the speakers will start to clip.
anyway..i will do a MDF rings to fit the new speakers..and see where we go..
this car is perfect to get it concert like..will change the MIDs also for a Vifa ones..after i get info on the center speaker measurment..
will measure the resistance..but i dont plan to use the speakers once i change them..also i will have to change the wires too..
but speakers have neodymium magnets which is a plus..

Great thread and please, all of you, edumacate me on how and with what you're dampening both road noise intrusion and music vibrations in the door.
I was going to +1 the Dynamat Extreme, because I heat-gunned that onto the ceiling, back wall and doors of our truck to reduce road noise and settle the doors after installing Polks in all four stock holes, and I think it worked pretty well. If there's a smarter way, and you can fit aftermarket speakers in there without modifying things too much, I bet a lot of us would love to know and see more.

The seeming consensus: Dynamat and its imitators are best for killing the vibration of exterior body panels such as door skins and trunklids that's caused by loudspeakers. Mass loaded vinyl barriers are a better answer when you're trying to reduce the overall invasion of noise from outside the car (a change that would be welcome in many Honda products).

here is the center speaker measured professorially
i was thinking of replacing it with vifa speakers rear 2 on the deck and this center but they are ok for the job..just the doors speakers need to be changed and a new amp is in order.
when i get my dynamat i will do this..and post some pictures.
