Setting up HF in 06 RL

Finally had a chance to set up my phone using bluetooth technology. (I have 06 RL w/ Tech package if that matters) I was able to pair up the phone and get all the previous phonebook erased (i'm a 2nd owner). Here is my question...
  1. Sounds quality isn't great. Seems very 'distant'. Is it my phone or is this expected?
  2. Phonebook - I know, using the button on steering wheel allows you to store up to 50 entries. But can I use the address book on the navigation screen? Is there a separate phonebook available thru Navi screen we could use?
  3. If my phone is linked, can I not dial out number from my phone direct but hear it thru car audio? It didn't work for me earlier. I have to press the 'voice' button and spell out number to dial it out.

1 - Could be either your phone or the car connection. Bluetooth is not always reliable.
2 - You have to manually add the entries to the car phone book. You can't use the NAV.
3 - After you dial out from your phone, press the HF button and say "Transfer" after the tone, and the call will be transferred to the car.

For item 1, my eperience is that is usually the phone.
For item 2, you can dial any place in the Nav that has phone # associated with it. For example, search for a specific Restaurant and you will see a menu option for Dial. It will then initiate call through HFL and say "Dialing the # rcvd from the Navigation System." I can't remember if you can add phone #s to destinations added to the Nav in its address book.

My friend's 2010 TL had a dedicated phone book to be used thru Bluetooth. He didn't even have to manually type it in. He was able to transfer from the phone direct. Then he goes thru the list using the button and click to dial. In our system, i have to select it as 'address' so will need to make up some sort of address for each item.

That feature is on the 2010 RL as well. May have been introduced in the 09RL. I'm sure someone will know

when you say, 'you have to manually add the entries to the car phone book', you are talking about using HF button and say 'phonebook' then 'store' then 'name' then 'number' option right?

Correct. It's actually not that hard to add entries to your phone book. It's cumbersome, but it's pretty easy. One advise I can give you is: make sure you use a common naming convention when saying the entry's name. For example, John Cell; John Home or Smith Cell; Smith Home (first + device or last + device). It'll be a lot easier to remember how to recall the name when you're trying to call someone.

I believe this feature was first added in the 2007 MDX. The 50 voice tags is the same as what the RL has. The ability to import 1000 names with 10 numbers per name was a new feature. Remember the first 2G Acura RL with HFL came out in late 2004, so two years later, late 2006, they added this new feature...

http://hondanews.com/channels/acura-...fety?query=mdx

On all models with the navigation system, up to 50 names with one number per name can be stored with voice tags in the system's Voice Tag Phonebook. For users with large phonebooks in their mobile phone memory, the available navigation system, working in conjunction with HandsFreeLink®, can import up to 1000 names with 10 phone numbers per name. Up to six different compatible mobile phones can be paired with the HandsFreeLink® system at one time. Additional information can be found at www.acura.com/handsfreelink (or www.handsfreelink.com).
