Is the RL Key "chipped"?

Is the RL Key "chipped"?
Is the physical key that can be pulled out of the remote a "chipped" key or is it a simple metal key?
Will an off-the-shelf duplicate key work to open the door and start the car, or just open the door?
I tried a search on "key" but that phrase is too small.
