My 06 RL has what I think is a factory install backup camera, it is located in the center of the trunk lid in the center of the overhang above the license plate. The trunk release button is to the right. I have complete maintenance records for the car since it had 25k mi, it just cracked 200k. In 2014 the original camera was replace by an Acura dealer, it works but it is 2006 technology and is not great in anything but perfect light conditions. My question (yes there is one) is this, can this camera be replaced with a new after market one with higher resolution and will it work trough the existing wiring to the Navi screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have the same question. Ours is a 2008 RL. As you say, the technology is now quite old. There are many cameras that claim very good quality in less than perfect lighting. Have you put in a new camera?

 

You're still limited by the nav screen's resolution and its internal CPU, unless you plan on replacing everything

 

Yep, I understand that the screen/monitor has its limits. But I am thinking in terms of "garbage in, garbage out": i.e., a better camera might give the screen/CPU more to work with, so to speak.
