Question Removing Nav Disc

Hello all,

Maybe I'm just dumb...

I want to remove the Nav disc in my RL to see what version I have. I have never done it before. I know the unit is in the trunk, but when I hit the open button on the unit, nothing happens. I tried and tried again and I can't get it to open. I have the engine on and still nothing. My nav system works just fine, so I don't think the unit is defective. Any ideas?

Thanks

I believe you have to have the ignition off.

If the ignition is on, the system is booting up, and may lock the DVD drive closed as to not cause a system crash.

I checked the manual. Here it is:

Changing the DVD
NOTE:
The system’s database is stored on a
removable DVD. The system will not
work without the DVD. Ensure the door
remains closed at all times.
1. Remove the DVD while the ignition
switch is in the Accessory (I) position
or in the ON (II) position.

2. Locate the control unit. It is in the
trunk.
3. Push the OPEN button.
4. Push the Eject button. The DVD will
automatically come out and an error
message will display on the screen.
This is normal.
5. Pull the DVD straight out. Hold the
DVD by the edges. Fingerprints,
scratches, or other contamination on
the playing surface can make the
DVD unreadable.
To install the Navigation DVD, make
sure the white label is facing up. Slide
the DVD into the slot. The DVD is
automatically pulled into the control
unit. Make sure you close the door.

Thanks for the info Tampa.

I finally did get it open. Had to pry the door open with a butter knife. It was stuck pretty well. I'm guessing the door was never opened before, as I still have the original DVD v4.13 in it.

Now to decide whether I should drop $185 on v4.81 or not. I don't use the Nav system much, but the maps are very outdated.

I just got a letter from Acura "inviting" me to buy the latest version with free shipping!

$185.00! !! ! The website has the same thing........ So much for feeling special.

So much has changed in my local area (new roads, businesses etc) since 2006, its crazy (in Orlando, fl). The version I currently have is *almost* worthless. Im going to HAVE to upgrade. Guess this is the time.

woodek,

I am running 4.63. It has some functional improvements over the 4.3X that likely you have. It includes one way streets, clearer NAVTraffic icons and additional POIs. It also has the DST selection.

The latest disc does not have any functionality upgrades, but will have even newer POIs, ZAGAT and maybe some additional map updates (although it does not appear so on the website for central Florida).

You might find a used copy of 4.63 or 4.64 online for a much lower price and also get the newer functionality. FYI 4.63 appears to be the last version that was successfully 'copied'.

Last, you do not need to eject your disc to check the version. You can determine from the NAVI diagnostic screens selecting VERSION.
