Radio code
Radio code
OK, picked up an 05 RL last month and the radio is asking for a code. I called the dealership (not an Acura dealership but Lexus), no help there. I tried an Acura dealership and they said that, if I don't have the manual and/or card (and I don't), they would have to pull the radio as it is stamped on the back. I search here and found a thread with a secret code. It worked but the numbers don't make sense, it keeps saying 'U = 4000' and 'L = 4774'. Problem is, the radio presents are only 1 thru 6, no 0s and no 7s. Any other ideas?
I find it hard to believe that the code is stamped on the back. What would be on the back is the unit S/N which Acura could then look up the code for.
Call Acura Customer Care and ask them about this. I bet they will say the dealer can provide this service for free based on the VIN, however, if the unit has been switched out, for whatever reason, then you have to go the pull the unit route.

dealer looked it up with the vin
I needed the code on the road one time and the dealer was able to get it to me immediately by looking in my customer record on their maintinance computer. I don't know if they just store the codes for the RLs they sell or if they're able to look it up from the VIN they had on file, but they had it to me in a minute.

If not, ACS ought to be able to help you.
Thanks, all. The car was originally from Iowa and is now in Ohio, I have no idea who the selling dealership was as I purchased it from a the used division of a Lexus dealership who purchased the car at auction. Searched everywhere for the card or any scrap of paper with a code, glove box, truck, door pockets, seatback pockets. I'll try Acura Customer Service, thanks again.
can't be that many acura dealers in Iowa
I'm going to go out an a limb and guess there aren't that many Acura dealers in Iowa.
Heh, it looks like there's only one:
Jordan Acura
5138 Merle Hay Rd
Johnston, IA 50131
PH: (515) 727-7009

OK, happy ending, although it took a few more calls. First one was to the lone Iowa dealer, they had no record of the car. Next call was to ACS, who said that the car was not originally from Iowa but rather Florida and gave me the dealer number. Third call was jackpot, dealer did sell the car originally and gave me all the codes, radio, NAV, Alarm and Key. Interestingly, ACS confirmed that if the original selling dealer did not have a record of the code and the owner's manual w/card is lost, the only way to get the radio code is to pull the radio. Apparenlty, the code is tied to the radio serial number, not the VIN.
Radio Code Location
Look in your engine compartment fuse box on the drivers side. The codes are usually located inside of the top part of the fuse box cover stamped in white, just look for the 5 digit code.
