Question Power to radar detector

Hey guys anyone has radar detector feeds power from the rearview mirror?
Currently I have it plugged in to power outlet and that power cord kills me every time I see it. I saw nice looking adapter thingy to mount it to the mirror so I'm thinking to make my own instead of paying $70 What do you guys think?

If your radar detector has laser you don't want to mount it up high. The best place to mount it on the windshield is as low as possible, maybe 2 to 3 inches above the hood, in front of the drivers side headlight. The reason is that cops aim at the drivers headlight or front license for the best reflection. I hard wired my escort. I connected it to the center console accessory plug so when I turn off the car it goes off to. Hope this helps. What kind of radar detector doya have??

I got an Escort X50 and it's absolutely useless against laser. I have paired it up with Escort ZR3 and now I jam laser without any issues.

I have mine spliced to the accy plug, for switched power. I have the rearview mirror install in our Chevy trailblazer, and while it was neater, it cuts power to the detector everytime I shift through reverse, as power is cut to the autodim feature in reverse. Not sure if the RL is the same way, but it is annoying to me.

I have a Valentine hard wired into the rear view mirror, works great. I wish I could remember which wires to plug into, but I think I found it on here if that helps....

I have the escort 8500 x50 and I use the cable. I got used to it after a while. My big complaint is the rattle. I sometimes get it in the right spot and it won't rattle and sometimes I cannot find the sweet spot. It drives me nuts. I used to hate the cable but now I am so used to it, I don't even see it. I realize it is a personal thing though, cuz I empathize with you on how it can bother you.. I bought a new suction cup accessory from escort and that didn't really do too much for the rattle. I feel like introducing a rattle into your car is insane... nobody wants a rattle

I ended up leaving the radar at the bottom of the windshield and fished the wire through center speaker hole on the dash and connected right at the cigarette lighter socket:-)
