passport 9500i and gps signal aquisition
I just bought a passport 9500i.
I'm wondering if anyone in the forum is using one. Mine seems to work fine except it is unable to aquire the gps signal even after a few hours of driving including highways, waiting at stoplights and parking lots without anything blocking the sky. As you know, many of the special features of the 9500i don't work without a lock on the gps.
In other's experience, how long does it typically take for it to aquire the gps signal?
The RL GPS has no trouble aquiring a signal within seconds after I start the car.
Have you had any problems with receiving the gps signal on the RL compared to other vehicles where you use the 9500i?
I have the detector in the center of the windshield and a few inches above the bottom of the windshiled. I have no tinting on any of the windows.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Some windshields have sort of a heat reflective shield and those wreak havoc on certain electronics (I had this happen on my7-Series BMW). Try putting it higher towards the rear view mirror or right smack in the middle of the windshield as low as possible. I also use a Passport but the one without the GPS and it works fine. Radio signals are weird and depending on where they originate they may or may not work. The GPS comes from high above meaning the angle is crucial. The OEM nav works fine because the antenna is either external (shark fin) or mounted high in the rear of the car.
Just some thoughts...
Good luck,

I called the support line today. (only open M-F). per the support person, it is supposed to aquire a GPS signal in a matter of seconds. To eliminate the 'windshield factor', I did keep it plugged into power and put it on roof of car: no signal.
They emailed a return label to ship it back to them at their expense.
