NAVI Screen Auto Dimming

Is is possible to set the Navi Screen to auto dim at night when the headlights come on? This feature is available on the MDX, but, I have not seen a way to set it on the RL... Any suggestions??

For me this feature was ON by default. In Setup menu you can even select different color schemes for day and night. I tweaked it a little. Frankly, I don't know how to turn it off, other than assign night to the same color scheme I use for the day. Still it would be a little dimmed when lights are on.

Can you at least switch the night and day modes using small round button in the lower left of the console?

I can use the small round "brightness" button on the lower left of the console. I would just like to know where the setup feature is on the actually menus to do this by default. I can adjust the brightness too. Just cannot seem to find a place where I can set the feature to dim when headlights come on.

Do you have your headlights in Auto mode? For me it works like that - when I enter the garage (which is rather dark) the headlights turn on in a second, at the same very moment nav screen dims and half a second later it switches to the night color scheme, configurable at Setup -> knob to the right -> menu Color. Again I thought the feature to dim the nav screen is always there, I don't know where to make it NOT to dim (other than manually with the brightness button).

I do have the headlights in auto mode. The screen stays the same. It never darkens when the lights are on unless I manually tell it to darken with the small round button on the console. It works when I do that. I just want it to darken on its own when the lights come on. I guess I am missing something and will ask the dealer...

Everytime you turn the ignition to Accessory, the display setting goes into Auto mode, which switches the screen between Day and Night as the headlights are turned between Off and On, respectively. This could be overriden by pressing the Display Mode button to select the screen modes. So if you want the screen to automatically dim itself, don't use the Display Mode button after you turned on the ignition. Otherwise, you would have to restart the car for this to reset to the Auto mode. Hope this helps.

Instead of turning off the car to reactivate the Auto mode, you could turn the ignition to position III and let it go back to II, but please understand that you are doing it at your own risk. I discovered by accident that the starter doesn't get engaged when the engine was already running.

Hope you found the answer but if you haven't...

The instrument cluster light adjustment has 20 incremental settings. If it is set to 20, the brightest setting, it forces the nav screen to be on "day" setting all the time. Only way to make that to night setting would be manually pushing that "day & night" button on center console. If you just dim the instrument cluster to 19, it will work.

Just make sure your instrument cluster lights or not set for max. If it is, you will not auto dim on the navi.

It's been almost 2 years since he last visited. I doubt he's going to thank anyone for their help at this point.

hey it will help me, because I was wondering about this too, because my other cars had autodim and the RL didn't seem to work. I, of course, leave my brightness at 20, so thanks for the help...I will put it at 19..
