Overhead console removal

I have an issue with the BT where people say that I'm talking in a wind-tunnel and I push the little perforated grille on the passenger side of the overhead console and the voice quality returns to normal. I tried removing the console by taking off the lamp diffuser and removing the exposed two screws but the plastic overhead console stills feels like it will break if I pry it any harder. I know that people have removed this to cut wires to the ANC mic but I am asking for a bit more knowledge on how to remove the unit to see if I have an issue with the BT mic.
Thanks for any input.

we are having a similar problem, butnot on my RL, but onour MDX. last night my wife called me from the car and it sounded like she was talking through a pillow.. the sound level was lower and the sound quality was VERY muffled...I could hear her but couldn't make out what she was saying. as soon as she transferred the call OFF the handsfree and just put it to her phone - the quality was 100%.. so it's not her phone, i'ts something with the bluetooth / handsfree system. or maybe the mic is pluggged up or something???

we may take it in and let the dealer look at it... ours is under warranty.. i'll post up wht the results are.. maybe you have the same problem.

As mentioned, OP, maybe you can take it into the stealership if you're still under warranty.

No specific knowledge about this, but did you try the service manual in the garage? It might have a schematic that could help. BTW, the ANC mic is actually a separate assembly from the overhead console, and you can get to those wires by just pulling the front and rear mic assemblies, is what I recall.

Before monkeying with the hardware, I would check the mic calibration in the Diagnostic Screens.

Also, the ANC mics are not the same as the Voice Command / HFL mics.

I would not consider any calibration when pushing on the passenger side of the overhead unit temporarily fixes the problem.
I also realize that the 2 mics are separate but I was wondering if anybody had first hand experience of removing the assembly?

The Diagnostics will also run a system test to verify the mics are operating correctly, validating your concern they they are physically muffled in the overhead. Otherwise, if it fails the test, you know something else is going on before tearing out hardware.

The diagnostics only tell you if it is working or not. This can also be done by asking the person that you are talking to. As previously stated, pushing the unit fixes the issue and letting go again creates the issue - that's fairly conclusive or a highly improbable coincidence.
If anybody has some assistance in removing the overhead console I would be grateful of the knowledge.
