Onstar and accident

I know in the event of an accident and the airbags are deployed onstar will automatically be contacted from the vehicle. When I was in the accident with the TL all power to the car was automatically cut off. I make the assumption that onstar is somehow sitll powered in the event of an accident?

vik - when you start a thread that has the word "crash" in it, i cringe....... i recall the pics of your TL........

i would assume that the onstar power is kept on. don't the doors unlock, etc.? there must be some power?

sad isn't it?

the doors don't unlock. in the tl it took me some time to figure out that i was in an accident and the power was cut off which is why i couldnt use the switch to unlock the doors. i had to manually pull up the lock.

Yes, it sure did. Exactly why I bought another honda. I realized just how well they designed the safety features in the cars. honda.

No onstar will not work with out power. This is something the 2007 GM cars/suvs/trucks with on star will add (Battery backup for onstar)

Hopefully Acura/honda will do the same

So, then how will onstar be contacted in the event of an accident with the airbags deployed? What good is the system (in terms of emergency use) in the accident? I know from experience that the power is cut off to the car when an accident is detected.

Another member was just in an accident with his RL and confirmed that onstar will still operate after the accident - they did call him when the airbags deployed.
