hi. i recently bought a blue RL base model. just wondering if i can do something to make my car have navigation? anyone know or did it? please let me know, thanks

I asked about adding factory navi to my Volvo a few years ago and it was possible but would cost a few thousand. I'd guess with the RL it would be cost-prohibitive. Why not just get a Garmin?

Of course, enough money and time would make anything possible. However, the RL system is very integrated with the other systems of the car, making this a very, very expensive and complex upgrade.

My recommendation would be to get a Nuvi.

I mean no offense by the next question as this doesn't pertain only to you, but I have to wonder why people opt out of the facotry Nav and then come here asking how to make it Nav enabled?!?!?

Your only real option is to get a Magellan, or Garmin unit for < $1000, but then you have to have that thing hanging from your windshield or on your dash. Spending anything more than that and you might as well upgrade to the factory equipped model.

NeuronBob, mentioned it before, sure as sh*t it's a given that between here and the TL forums you're going to get the thread that starts with "Should of gotten the Navi, what would it take to retrofit it?".

I tell anyone who asks me to get it. You'll never regret it. When I got my first one on my '01 TL, I thought it would be a toy. Now I'll never own another car without one.

I told my brother the same thing. For years he would dismiss it and say he didn't need it. I was finally able to get through to him when he bought his TL, and now he's a believer.
