New to the RL world
It also depends on your phone carrier as each typically modifies the OS.

But the Note 5 has not been tested yet...for that matter the Note 4. But based on the Note 3 most HFL features work. Be aware what does not work in the feature listing.

That is for the Data Connection. Very few phones are capable of being a data modem, especially since the carriers disable that feature of BT. It was intended as a means the car could send trouble codes from your car to the dealer via the Acura server. In theory, the dealer could send software patches to the car if it was a software issue or reset. Good Luck finding a delaer that uses it, or even understands it.
In the 10 years I had my RL, I never got a data transmission. On the other hand, I did not have Data Connection since my Moto Razr.
You will see on the HFL website Data is not checked as a feature compatible with a Note # and your model car.

Unless the call is initiated from HFL, when you start the call on your phone and send it to bluetooth, immediately upon the person answering it will default back to the phone. Strange, I know, but the HFL in the RL is 11 years old now... I just voice dial it to save myself the trouble of having to switch back when the person answers.

I hate to revive an "old" thread but I thought this is necessary instead of creating a new thread. I checked out the HFL website, are they joking? Most of these phones are outdated! I have a Nexus 5X and I cannot pair with my 2009 Acura RL. I've researched high and low how to improve bluetooth and see if we can install an aftermarket stereo. I think there's a better chance of installing aftermarket bluetooth adapter (with audio streaming) than installing a stereo. Has anyone here on the forums did either of them?

Anecdotes aside: I've read good things about adding this BT45 unit to the RL. It takes over your XM1 mode and allows you to connect your phone over Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP to stream music, and use the steering wheel controls. For phone calls, it works with that as well, but the regular call controls on the steering wheel don't work, and you have to run their dedicated microphone line from the trunk to the front dash/windshield somewhere.

Don't hate that; quite welcomed around here versus bits of useless new threads everywhere.

List what ur doing we may be able to help without buying anything else.
Just this morning I found out I bought the wrong adapter for this exact problem. Like a good A'Ziner, I installed a replacement GPS disc drive in my trunk, giving me navigation on the cheap. However, when ordering the new USA Spec BT45 kit, I went through the flow chart thing and bought the BT45-ACU which is for Acura's with navigation installed from the factory. When I looked at the XM unit in my trunk, its a regular Honda unit

Hey fellow 2009 RL!
Don't hate that; quite welcomed around here versus bits of useless new threads everywhere.
The bluetooth on my 2009 works great and i've tested it with ios and android phones. Your nexus should connect just fine. if you've just bought the car, u may not be doing the HFL right. It's mainly by voice. No buttons for that.

Hey there! Well I did everything possible. I followed the tutorials on youtube. Yes I did the voice set up and nothing. I opened my bluetooth settings to see if it can detect my Acura's bluetooth and it doesn't detect it at all.
- I did the voice command thing and said "pair" but my phone does not detect anything.
- I turned off my car and my phone and turn on my car and my phone and repeated step 1.
- I cleared cache on my phone and repeated step 1.
No luck whatsoever. Either way, I was thinking of upgrading the bluetooth/usb port since I heard the hf link does not stream audio?

Regarding pairing, maybe try someone's phone before investing and modifying.
Just recalled..
If that's the steps ur doing, then ur not doing it right.
U need to press talk and say: list options. Nice lady will give you 'available options'. and you must follow instructions after that. Only pressing talk and saying 'pair phone' does nothing.
