Navigation DVD question

I was trying to out the 07 RL nav DVD into the 05 RL to see if it would work. Unfortunately, I keep getting a message that says "Please Check Your Disk".

I would think that putting in a new DVD would load automatically. Has anyone tried to upgrade their nav DVD? Does anyone know if there are any keys or procedures to make the car recognize the new DVD?

The 05 RL DVD version is 4.15A and the 07RL DVD version is 4.55A.

This will get moved to the Nav forum, but in the meantime, I understand you need an installation disc to upgrade to a newer nav DVD. It's usually on a CD, which you insert, then remove after the files are transferred and insert the new DVD.

I don't think that's true. I bought 4.55A for my 05 RL in December and just swapped out the DVD disks and everything worked fine. There should be no interim step required beyond swapping the DVD's. His disk must actually be bad.

Don't do it unless your planning to stick with that disk (if it works). You can't go back once you upgrade (unless you get the dealer involved)

Depends on the versions you are talking about.

If you are currently running 4.55 in your RL, then you should have no problem using the 4.56 disc from the TSX. Assuming that is what is coming with the 08 TSX....

Are the DVD disk of the RL and the TSX interchangeable? I believe that our RL needs the white DVD disc and not the other colors.

Thanks for clarification. I have no personal experience with it. I'm going by what the manual said. It warns against "trialing" newer versions unless you are going to stay with it. There seems to be some sort of "upgrade" step that occurs which cannot be easily reversed without dealer assistance. Maybe minor upgrades (e.g. 4.55 to 4.56) aren't effected.

I have downgraded the RL and MDX in my garage by jsut going into the diagnostics menu, poping in the lower disk, and pushing the load button. IT works flawlesly. Also jsut as a headsup, the navi disk can be copied. Look in the TL section (3rd Gen), its in the aduio and bluetooth section and the tread is called Burn Nav disk? by leedog, i made a DIY of it, first post, page 4.

The newer TSXs also use the white disc as do all of the newer acuras.

In the past there have been versions of the nav discs that supposedly upgraded some firmware in the nav unit that was not reversable, but not in the later versions. The manual may say something about that because the average user does not know how to get into the diagnostic mode to load a new version disc. It isn't simply gettting a new disc and sticking it in the nav drive. You do have to go into the diagnostic mode and load the new or old disc. So the manual says your dealer has to do it so that you don't go in the diags and mess anything up.

Well, with my 05 RL, I recently upgraded with the what is the latest available and just replaced the old disc with the new one and that's it. It took a while to boot up and upgrade the system, but I didn't have to go to the diagnostic mode to do the swap. It's basically switch and play.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DVD because the same DVD works in the 07 RL.

That's how my upgrade went as well. Just put the disc in and it did the upgrade automatically.

navigation system slow to load

Is anyone having a problem with going into messages and it is very slow or actually locks up and you cannot read anything. Then about 45 seconds later it will go back to the navigation home screen?
I have a 2006 rl. Thanks,
Dealer says it is normal and there is no sofware upgrade available, even though the dealer admits it is not working properly.

All fine here.. No Lock ups no issues with navigationg to and reading messages....

Check with Acura Support... Is your Navi Disk scratched? Have you tried to reboot the Navi system..

Just got the new update (4.56A) last week. Tried it. Got a weird error message that said what I was trying to load WAS OLDER than what was already in there (4.31C). Called Alpine first. All good. Next stop, Radley Acura. They put in a DVD from a new RL, then put mine back in. The new DVD works just fine now.

When you put the 4.56a disc in did you do a LOAD in the diagnostic menu? This would load the new version disc into memory. Otherwise, the 4.31c would still be loading from memory. When it says that you were trying to load a version that was older that what was in there, it was referring to the version 4.31c in memory was older than the disc you have inserted.

Either that or you have a bad disc that wouldn't load so they had to load off another nav disc.

I have that problem with deleting messages. Takes FOREVER, and often does not come up.

I also have issues with seeing traffic incidents, they also take a very long time to load.

Having never removed my DVD from the carrier, I don't think there's a DVD damage issue.

In the past, I have already the new year DVD update comes out in October. Has that changed for this year? If so, how much does it cost and where can I buy it?

Please let me know. Thanks.

If you are asking whether the DVD update comes out in October, as it has in the past, there is no information that contradicts the past patterns. Alpine does not pin it down to a month. They just say in the fall. You order from this site:
