Need steps to upgrade to 4.63
Can anyone share the precise steps required to upgrade to 4.63? I'm currently running 4.13. I read on this thread that I need to upgrade to 4.31 before going to 4.63 and lucky for me I have a friend who has a 4.31a version.
I inserted the 4.31a then pressed the 3 buttons Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel and held for about 5 seconds but I don't know what to do from there. It obviously didn't work because the 4.63 version just looped.
Thanks in advance.

I think this is precisely why Alpine developed 4.64
You insert the disc, turn on the car and let it boot. New firmware loads and then you start up as normal.
FWIW, my 06 RL came with 4.31c and while I did not have the looping issue, I did have to use the three button salute to get out of diagnostic mode. Then it worked OK.
Others reported looping. I wonder if 4.31a were those that looped?

DON'T press the Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel buttons. To upgrade software versions, you just install the new disc and then turn on the car. The system will then update automatically. The only time you would press the buttons would be to downgrade to an earlier release version of software or to get out of a diagnostics menu.

So... if I had a 4.31 disk I could put it in my car and it would automatically upgrade from 4.13 to 4.31.. Once that was done I could then insert a 4.63 disk and it would upgrade to that. Is that all there is to it?

Maybe or maybe not. This is what I have gathered from reading and research
4.13 2005 Update
4.31 2006 Update
4.55 2007 Update 1
4.56 2007 Update 2
4.62 2008 Update pulled off the shelf
4.63 2008 never sold by Alpine, came installed on models like 2G TSX and Honda Accord
4.64 2008 Update to replace 4.62
I upgraded from 4.31c to 4.62 and had issues. Subsequently, Alpine pulled 4.62 because of the upgrade issues
4.63 showed up in the new 2G TSX, and I think the new Accord, and likely other Honda cars that use the white DVD, but there is no assurance that it was designed to successfully upgrade older systems to the 4.6x standard
Only 4.64 does the older version upgrade as listed above
There is some chatter on the 2G TSX board that a call to Alpine said the only difference between 4.63 and 4.64 was the ability to upgrade older systems, but otherwise, the map database, POI, etc. were the same.
The three button navi salute may be all you need to complete the upgrade, or not.
There is a lot of circumstantial evidence to believe that 4.62 also had the same map database, POI, Zagat, etc., as 4.63 and 4.64.
So bottom line is maybe it will work, and maybe not, you will have to try it and let us know.

Not necessarily. I have an 06 and had trouble upgrading from 4.31c to 4.62. The three button salute worked partially, to get out of diagnostic mode, but voice recognition had to be reset at the dealer because something was wrong with mic sensitivity.

Hold Off on Update!
I called Alpine today about 4.64 and was told it contained the proper set-up files to upgrade painlessly from 4.13b in my 05 RL.
But I was also told that a new version would be released in early December. You may want to wait. That is my decision.

Hello all... I apologize for my first post being a request, but I just purchased a 2005 RL (After owning a 99 RL for 6 years) and it did not have a Nav DVD, so I purchased a 4.63 off eBay. Well as you can all guess it doesn't work. I would greatly appreciate any help with a download of an older version or I would be glad to purchase someone's older DVD for a reasonable price. Any help would be appricated... I can be emailed at (without the spaces) jmaros @ mailmbc.com THANK YOU
BTW What a great forum!
