Navi on 06 rl from Hawaii not working in SF

I just shipped 06 RL from Hawaii, which had a working Navi (version 4.31c) to San Francisco. the Navi is not working there, saying out of range. Does anyone know if i simply need to get an updated navi disk or just go to the dealer to adjust the navi unit itself?

The navagation unit (which is in the trunk has a completely different part number. The only reason why (that I can imagine) for a HI only model is different sat programming that makes this location specific. Be prepared for the acuralink & xmtraffic not to work either. First thing i would do is call the acura dealership to see if they offer a remedy or a courtesy exchange of the unit (you do have a unique situation) If the dealer fails to resolve this, I would go to Acura corporate. Someone in Acura knows the answer and will hopefully offer you a solution.

The next step to take would be to contact Alpine directly...they are the makers of the equipment...prehaps they would provide you with an exchange (refurbushed unit for a small fee. From my own experience, they provide a flat fee repair (which i wondered if that includes unit exchange for major issues) of only $150 + 8 ups charge.

Did you try going into the RL diagnostic screen (hold the Map - Menu - Cancel buttons simultaneously for a few seconds until the screen comes up)? Choose the "Coverage Area" selection and switch it from Hawaii to the United States then exit out of the diagnostic and see if that fixes your issue. If not then a trip to the dealer might be in order.

Exactly as dwboston says, HI is a different database on the navi disc.

From the 07 navigation manual:

Shipping a Vehicle To or From
Hawaii
Although the DVD in the vehicle
contains maps for both US mainland
and Hawaii, the dealer must perform the
selection of “US mainland” or “Hawaii”
for you.
NOTE:
• When your dealer makes the switch
from US mainland to Hawaii or vice
versa, the system clears all user data.
Make sure to record any information
that you do not want to loose.
• Vehicles delivered to Hawaii dealers
lack XM receivers. Therefore if your
vehicle is shipped to the continental
US, there is no XM or Traffic
coverage available. In this case,
sections of this manual that discuss
XM or Real-Time Traffic are not
applicable.
• If a US mainland delivered vehicle is
shipped to Hawaii, there is no XM
reception. It is necessary to see your
Hawaii dealer to allow viewing of
local Hawaii maps. If the vehicle is
shipped back to the continental US,
return to your dealer for access to US
mainland maps.

But yeah they are correct in that you can make the switch yourself rather than go to the dealer to make the switch. Just keep in mind that you may lose any user info you have programmed in.
