Navi on 06 rl from Hawaii not working in SF
I just shipped 06 RL from Hawaii, which had a working Navi (version 4.31c) to San Francisco. the Navi is not working there, saying out of range. Does anyone know if i simply need to get an updated navi disk or just go to the dealer to adjust the navi unit itself?

The next step to take would be to contact Alpine directly...they are the makers of the equipment...prehaps they would provide you with an exchange (refurbushed unit for a small fee. From my own experience, they provide a flat fee repair (which i wondered if that includes unit exchange for major issues) of only $150 + 8 ups charge.

From the 07 navigation manual:
Shipping a Vehicle To or From
Hawaii
Although the DVD in the vehicle
contains maps for both US mainland
and Hawaii, the dealer must perform the
selection of “US mainland” or “Hawaii”
for you.
NOTE:
• When your dealer makes the switch
from US mainland to Hawaii or vice
versa, the system clears all user data.
Make sure to record any information
that you do not want to loose.
• Vehicles delivered to Hawaii dealers
lack XM receivers. Therefore if your
vehicle is shipped to the continental
US, there is no XM or Traffic
coverage available. In this case,
sections of this manual that discuss
XM or Real-Time Traffic are not
applicable.
• If a US mainland delivered vehicle is
shipped to Hawaii, there is no XM
reception. It is necessary to see your
Hawaii dealer to allow viewing of
local Hawaii maps. If the vehicle is
shipped back to the continental US,
return to your dealer for access to US
mainland maps.
But yeah they are correct in that you can make the switch yourself rather than go to the dealer to make the switch. Just keep in mind that you may lose any user info you have programmed in.
