Nav Traffic Cuts Out
tech escalation
I said in another post that it took 2 resets to fix mine, but it was really 3. One Thursday AM (12/6), then Friday AM, and then Friday 12/7 PM. For the 3rd try I got he same rep, he said he was escalating to manager to take a look at it.
Mine started working again with no resets. I still think it was a system problem that affected everyone.
Not working again this morning at all. The icon menu shows that I have the service (icon is highlighted), but no traffic. Called XM and they said they recall hearing about the "Acura problem", but he was clueless this time. Sent a reset signal and that did nothing as I expected. This is ridiculous. This service is the most valuable in the winter months and it's been totally unreliable this year.

I not only have encountered the 20min XM drop problem in the SFBAY area on my 2005RL but also another. If the temperature is <42, sometimes one of 3 conditions will occur in increasing severity.
1) Nav traffic doesn't work
2) Nav system address book etc. function are hung but radio works fine
3) disc read error
Once the car warms up and I restart the system, everything works fine.
Given that the trade in value is about $10K I do not feel good about spending $2K to have the nav unit replaced.
Anyone else run into this? Any ideas? I guess I could move to Florida.

My issue might have something to do with my account. After two days I escalated AGAIN to XM. THey transferred me to technical support, then I was transferred to NavTeq (the ones who supply the maps). I wasn't sure why, but I went along and sure enough the guy at NAVTEQ didn't understand why I was sent to them, they simply supply the maps.
He then gave me another number for the "NavTraffic technical support". I was greeted by a person who said, "Welcome to Sirius" and it sounded basically like the Sirius customer service. I explained for what seemed like the 20th time what has happened.
After I was on hold for a while the guy came back and told me to check it now. I told him I was at work and couldn't run out to my car at that time. He then told me to check it when I went home, that it should be fixed.
I proceeded to complain about how unreliable it's been and he politely stopped me and said he was confident it was fixed and if I hadn't called they wouldn't have found the issue, and that my "account was fixed".
Sure enough when I left work it was functioning again and has been.
Let's see how long this goes.

Hey guys, I was looking for my radio code in the binder the original owner gave me for the RL. I came across this TSB that may help some of you out. It is TSB 05-022
"Product Update: AcuraLink Control Unit Causes Excessive Battery Drain, Refreshes XM Program Data Slowly, Does Not Receive Real-Time Traffic (Replaces 05-006, Product Update: AcuraLink Control Unit Does Not Receive Real-Time Traffic, dated May 3, 2005)
Under certain conditions, the control unit mau cause excessive drain on the battery with the ignition switch off; if the owner is listening to XM Satelite Radio, they may notice a delay in refreshing of the display screen; If the owner parked inside an enclosed structure and then drove outside, they may not see Real-Time Traffic on the display screen.
The repair is to replace the AcuraLink Control Unit"
I don't know that this will be useful because several of you have '07+, but it could help. Good luck to you guys!

As someone said earlier, this problem appears wide-spread. There's a separate thread on the 4G TL forum.
I've been without Traffic in my TL for at least 2 weeks. Repeated calls to XM are worthless. Today, I spoke to them 4 times. Twice, they transferred me to Navteq and then to OnStar, claiming the problem was on their end. Both very politely explained they could do nothing (OnStar said they don't even have anything to do with XM).
I called back on the cancellation line and asked to cancel if they couldn't fix the problem. Finally spoke to someone whom I could clearly understand. She gave me a credit and scheduled a signal refresh to take place during my commute this evening. Other reps have tried the same thing, and it hasn't worked yet, but I'll give it another try.
This is obviously some system-wide XM failure. But the standard XM "Listener Care" reps are completely clueless.
