Nav not saving settings/reset every start: 2005 RL
I looked through the threads here and I could not find info on this one. I know the knowledge in this community can probably shed some light before I try and have my local dealer spend hundred figuring it out for me.
I have a 2005 RL that I bought a couple of months ago from a second-tier dealership (not certified, no warranty) and have had no real problems with it except one very annoying one. Every time I turn the vehicle off several of the features in the car do not save their settings and each time I start, they revert to their (assumed) factory defaults.
The Nav system customization (menu colors, voice speaking every time I select something new, etc.) does not save when I shut the car down. I took it to a local repair shop and we both hypothesized that it was the battery but it starts strong every time. After checking it (and we're heading into winter here in CO) I decided to pop for a new battery because the installed one was weak. That did not, as I suspected, fix the problem. I'm assuming there is a watch-sized battery somewhere in the car that saves this ROM info in the vehicle.
Little help...? Sorry for the novel but I like to provide the minds among us as much info as possible. Love the car and love this forum, I'm a new poster but frequent reader.
Thanks guys in advance.

I had this exact same problem and it baffled me for a few days until I realized that the car didn't know which remote I was using.
Set your NAV settings as you want them. Turn off the car, and lock the doors using the remote. Wait a few seconds, and then unlock. Open the door. Close it. Restart the car, and your settings should be there. (I don't know if opening and closing the door is required, but I did it! )
This should fix it.

When you go to start the car, does it say "Welcome Driver #" or just "Welcome"? If it's the latter, then the fob is not sync'ed, and you will need to follow the instructions on the back of the fob to sync it with the car.

I didn't see your thread about this until after I responded. I went ahead and merged the threads so all the info can be in one place.
