mp3 player bug?
I don't know how many of you have used the mp3 function of the RL. But, as you know (or will learn now) if you are in the audio screen and you have the dial knob turned so it is highlighting the mp3 disc, if you push in the big knob (enter) it will bring up a lost of all the songs on there so you can scroll through them easier.
If I am listening to the mp3 disc and I stop somewhere, turn off my car, and come back to my car later (even if its only 5 minutes later) if I try to go back to the screen which shows all the mp3s, it will not display them. If I turn off the car again sometimes it will show up. Otherwise I have to eject the cd and put it back in for the list to show up. Anybody else have this problem?

I've had the same issue since day one, with ANY MP3 disc I've tried in the RL. Sometimes it will pull up the tracklisting (or folder list) on the first button push, other times it just beeps but never goes to show the disc contents.
I'm not talking about the delay of the player to populate all the tracklist names, just the inability to actually show the tracklisting at all.
I hope Acura has a firmware upgrade before the end of the year...and I hope it includes the ability to read DVD-Rs with MP3s on them!

What I am talking about is that it will simply NEVER show up. I have waited 15 minutes before and none of the tracks show up - it wont even let me scroll through without titles appearing. Just a screen as if there is an error in there is an error or something. I think I will call Acura and let them know.

I called acura and he said he will send that over to the engineers to take a look at. I also asked about the ipod integration and he said that the accessory is to be for the 06 only and couldnt guarantee if it would work with the 05. He did say that the RL has an aux. audio input already... i dunno what he was talking about though... i didn tknow there was one..anybody else?

I've noticed that if I just spin the knob to highlight (not select) other discs, and then come back to the current disc, I can then bring up the folder listing no problem. Try it out and let me know if that does the trick for you.

I set up a directory for each artist on the disk when I record them. This makes it alot easier to find the song I want to listen to. I also include a blank 2 second song as the first track in the first folder so that it shows up in the album title on the display. Otherwise it will include the name of the first song as the album name for every song on the disk and that will also show up on the main audio display screen. I also found that you have to record the MP3's to the disk using a slow speed (both 8x and 12x seemed to work for me) or many of the MP3's would skip horribly when played.

I haven't tried an MP3 CD yet. I will burn one tonight and try tomorrow. I thought I'd read somewhere on this forum that the car will not recognize a
DVD+/-R with MP3s on it. Is that correct?

That is correct. It would be great to have 4.7GB of MP3s on one disc!

Had an Alpine HU in my previous vehicle that did MP3 DVDs. Oh well.....Although 6 MP3 CDs is about 4.5 Gb.......
I'll burn a CD tonight and try to reproduce this problem over the next couple of days. Just one question, did you power off the stereo before turning off the car?

Update;
The MP3 disk I burned skipped really badly. I decided to just listen to XM on the way to work and then go back to the MP3 disk right before I parked the car solely for the purpose of this test. When I tried to go back to the MP3 disk, there were no titles listed. However, the disk also would not play. The changer then spit the disk out and when I tried to reload it, spit it out again 2x. I gave up at that point....at least for today.

Odd. Mine hasn't skipped - it did spit it out when I used roxio easy cd creater and burned an ACTUAL mp3 disk (using the software you can select to burn data, music or MP3). If I burn just mp3s using the data method it works fine.

My MP3's did the same thing until I reduced the recording speed when burning them to the CD-R. I then recorded the same folders and tracks using an 8X recording speed and they play great. I can't believe how good the sound is with an MP3. I find I listen to them more than XM or the DVD Audio. Although, the DVD audio does sound great. This will be the first car that I have not wanted to upgrade the factory audio system.

So, I had somewhat better luck today. I recorded an MP3 disk as a data CD with Roxio last night and popped it in this AM. It spit it back at me at first, so I reloaded it and it was accepted the second time. The first song skipped. So, I advanced about 10 tracks in and no more skipping. I did burn the disk at 16x. So, I can try another one at 8x tonight. (good thing blank CD media is really cheap now.) I left the track list on screen in the car and shut the car off while the CD was playing. So, we'll see what happens when I start up the car after work.

Not good......
When I started the car after work, XM Radio was on at preset #1. After hitting OK at the initial prompt, I was taken to the nav screen. I switched to CD and there were no titles. Not only that, when the CD player went to check disk 1 (where I had the MP3 CD) it said, "no disk" and subsequently spit the disk out. I tried loading it 4x after that and a 5th time as CD 3 instead of 1. This is the same disk that was playing this morning, but was spit out 6x this afternoon. It would seem as if I have a bigger problem. Although, I'm not ready to blame the car just yet. It could be the method/software I'm using to burn these disks or the write speed. I'll try another one tonight at 8x and if that's no good, I'll try different media and then different burning software. I apologize for not having more specific info that relates to the original problem in this thread......too many variables in the test equipment, I guess.

Well, I think we can eliminate Roxio - as I use roxio. I am not sure why KGD had a problem with the burning speed - mine burns at 48x and my only problem was the titles technology can be awesome when it works though!

I think the brand is "Office" if I'm not mistaken. I spoke to a buddy at work who is much more experienced with burning MP3 CDs.....he mentioned that he has had skipping problems using cheap media and he also uses Roxio. (same version as I use) I'm going to Staples at lunch for a couple Memorex CDs.

OK, so I didn't get to Staples for the blank CDs, but I do have some info. When I started the car after work today, the MP3 disk was playing the same track as when I turned it off. After the OK prompt, I went to the Audio menu and all of the title info was there.
Still skips, though.......but, at least the disk didn't get spit out at me. I'll keep plugging away at this one.

All weekend....same thing. I have yet to lose the titles, but the disk skips. I had a busy weekend, but managed to pick up a quality CDR from a buddy. The only bad thing is that I forgot about the burn speed and just burned it at 24x. We'll see how it goes in the morning.

OK - so, last night when I returned to the car and started it (I had left the MP3 disk playing before I turned it off) the MP3 disk was still playing. After the OK prompt on the screen, I hit the "audio" button and selected the MP3 disk. The list of track titles were not there. I had to wait a few seconds for the fields to populate with the track (tag) information. I also have some songs on that disk in folders.....the folder names were there on the display while the titles for the "loose" tracks were gone. Is this anything like the original problem discussed in this thread?
#34
Somewhat - but my titles simply never return - even after 30 minutes of driving. Based on your experience with the cheap cd brand, I tried out TDK today and I had the same problem on my way home just now.

I have created discs with MP3 that worked in the RL with no problem. I have never dealt with WMA, though. Have you tried a disc that only has WMA files? Maybe the fact that you have two types on one disc might be the problem. Also, maybe there are different versions of the WMA format that are not backwardly compatible (typical Microsoft). Try a WMA-only disc.
