MediaBridge install. Need some help from electrical gurus asap.

I have a week of vacation time coming up in a couple weeks and I'm going to finally get around to installing the MediaBridge into my RL. I have all of the parts to do the install just like psheu's setup:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...bridge+install

The only thing I'm trying to figure out is the switch that he installed to switch between XM and the MediaBridge. I need to know what kind of switch I should be looking for and if anybody could point me in the right direction as to where I would splice this into the system. I tried to contact psheu about it directly but I couldn't get the information I needed. I guess I also am trying to understand why it would be a 3-way switch? I would have thought a 2-way, (switch one way for XM, the other way for MediaBridge), would be the way to go.

I'm also going to be adding in a video input that will go to the second input on my NavTool.

you are going to sit in the newb corner for not reading the thread you linked to in your question.

I need to install the 3-way SPDT switch because I still use XM/XM traffic. the mediabridge is plugged in behind the head unit's XM port... I have to turn one off before the I can use the other one. otherwise, they'll have conflict... this is where the switch toggling comes in. If you don't use XM at all, the setup is straight forward plug n play... no need for the switch....

I got the newer mediabridge unit with BT and Sirius (when they were giving out the free unit)
I think they meant to say if you want to keep your XM radio.... if not, the Mediabridge plugs into the XM port and take over the XM.... I still use XM and XM traffic so I had to install a toggle switch for XM and Mediabridge.... the way i had it setup, they cannot co-exsist (XM and Mediabridge) without some modification....

I also noticed that I use the bluetooth streaming function more than the other option....

BT > USB > AUX..... if I toggle it the other way, XM/CD/DVD... I have not touch FM/AM in ages

Trust me, I saw all of that. When I search for 3-way switches on eBay it doesn't turn up anything that really looks like what would be needed for this setup. So does a 3-way switch actually only have 2 toggle positions?

Got it now. Thank you! I'm going to do a little more research now. I'm sure I'll have a couple more questions though.

I think when he said 3-way he meant three terminals, two inputs and one output, versus a SPST which only has one input and output and toggles on or off.

Do you use XM?

the intent here is simple, you need a pole/switch position for each input signal.

so xm/media is 2 positions, if you add a third you need 3.

So I found a couple different switch types. I'm pretty sure this is the one I need.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-3-Positio...item4abeb34551

It's a 3-position switch so On-Off-On. I couldn't find an LED switch that was SPDT, they were all just On-Off, which I'm assuming won't work.

that's like the switch i have.

Yep, you are a switch master now.
The problem with on/off is that it only connects once, if it were on/on it would work cause if I understand this right you dont technically need an off.

I was hoping to find something with a fancy blue LED light or something. I guess it doesn't really matter since it's getting mounted inside the center console anyway. Did you use a switch so you can run XM and your USASpec, Heavy?

Oh yeah. I knew I was forgetting something. I need a switch for the NavTool too. I don't want to use that cheesy little yellow thing that comes with it. Wonder if I can find one that matches that switch?

Swing by a local Radio Shack. They usually have a few LED switch options.
