Lost RL key fob - any suggestions?

My husband lost his key fob to our 05 RL. Dealer says at least $450 to replace and that doesn't even include the spare valet key that goes inside the fob.

Yes, we're torn apart our home, garage, etc. and it's no where to be found.

We still have one, but nervous that if that one gets lost, we're really screwed.

Any ideas before we break the bank to get a new one?

Thanks!

You could buy a fob and spare key on ebay and just pay the dealer to program it.

Wanted to add to this thread. If you lose remote #2, do you have to purchase another remote #2 or can you have two #1's?

Does that make sense? Each remote has a number stamped in the back, either driver 1 or driver 2. We lost #2 and I've found a #1 for sale. Will personalized programming still work if you have two #1's?

I dont think it matters, because you can have up to 6 (could just be 4) remotes linked to your car, so if you were to do that you would have muntliple Driver 1 or Driver 2 remotes, its just up to you to remember which one is which. I believe when the Stealership programs it you need to tell him which Remote you want to be identifeid as your Driver 1 and Driver 2.

If I am wrong I am sure someone will jump in here.

cheers,

'06 RL Key Fob Programming

I just bought an 06 RL and it only came with one fob. I've seen them on ebay, and have also found directions online for how to do the programming. However, are all fobs compatible? The ID on the back of mine is 216J-EuE24AD4, the ones i've found online share this same ID, does this that it should work? Also, if anyone has the programming instructions and wouldn't mind sharing them I want to make sure I have the right ones! thanks.

I'm told by dealership that that if it is the exact number it will be fine. I am in the same position as you - bought one yesterday - not on eBay, but I looked there too and would be fine with that. Got a new one from REMOTE SUPERMARKET 1-888-308-5388 FOR $125. They only have #2's left right now. 2 dealers have told me that they are not interchangeable, but others say they are - as on a previous thread. I wrote one of the sellers who offer programming instructions and he said some people have had to go to dealer (but apparently some don't)

Programming the Transmitter

• The system accepts up to three transmitters. The transmitter codes are stored in a stacking-type memory. If a fourth transmitter code is programmed, the code for the first transmitter will be erased.

• Entering the programming mode cancels all learned transmitter codes, so none of the previously programmed transmitters will work. You must reprogram all of the transmitters once you are in the programming mode.

• You must complete steps 1-6 within 4 seconds of the previous step to keep the system from exiting the programming mode.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Press the “Lock” or “Unlock” button on one of the transmitters. (An unprogrammed transmitter can be used for this step.)

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 two more times. Use the same transmitter used in step 2.

5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

6. Press the “Lock” or “Unlock” button on the same transmitter. Make sure the power door locks cycle to confirm that the system is in programming mode.

7. Within 10 seconds, press the “Lock” or “Unlock” button on each transmitter, including the one used to enter the programming mode. Make sure the power door locks cycle after you press each transmitter button to confirm that the system accepted the transmitter’s code.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to exit the programming mode.

Turning the Audible Chirp On/Off

To turn the audible chirp off and on, press and hold the “Trunk Release” button, then immediately press and hold the “Lock” button. The LED on the transmitter blinks once to indicate on or twice to indicate off.

This is another similar set I got from somewhere else

NOTE: It is important to maintain the time limits between the steps. Make
sure the doors and the hatch are closed.

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2. Within 1 to 4 sec., push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the
transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit.

3. Within 1 to 4 sec., turn the ignition switch OFF.

4. Within 1 to 4 sec., turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5. Within 1 to 4 sec., push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the
transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit.

6. Within 1 to 4 sec., turn the ignition switch OFF.

7. Within 1 to 4 sec., turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8. Within 1 to 4 sec., push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the
transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit.

9. Within 1 to 4 sec., turn the ignition switch OFF.

10. Within 1 to 4 sec., turn the ignition switch ON (II).

11. Within 1 to 4 sec., push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the
transmitter aimed at the receiver under the audio unit.

12. YOU SHOULD NOW HAVE HEARD THE SOUND OF THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS! Within 1
to 4 sec., push the transmitter lock or unlock button again.

13. Within 10 sec., aim any remaining transmitters (up to two additional
ones) whose codes you want to store at the receiver, and press the
transmitter lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of
the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored.

14. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and pull out the key.

15. Confirm proper operation of the transmitters.

Good luck, Jean Let me know how it works
