Looking for best way to listen to Sirius in RL and at home
Looking forward to the January arrival of Stern to Sirius. I'm planning on purchasing a Sirius subscription and looking for the best option on the hardware. Planning on listening primarily in my home office, but do anticipate the occassional need to listen in the RL. I certainly don't want to mount anything in the RL, and was considering the Sportster unit and the boombox. I could listen using the boombox in my office and on those few occassions when I want to listen in the car, could do so with this unit.
Just not sure if I could get appropriate reception with this boombox inside the car? Does anyone else listen to Sirius in the RL or considered the options to do so?

You could always get one of those little portable units (i think the sirius s50) and have it for use at work and then just plug it into an FM modulator in the car so it will use the cars speakers. I don't know - with that unit - if you can get an external antenna so you can run an antenna to the window so you can use it in a building though. Just a thought

If you're getting it for Stern than you should just listen to O&A on 202... I converted back when they were still on WNEW in NYC... They keep me much more amused than Stern.... However, if you must go to Sirius, I would recommend getting their magnetic antena and sticking it on the roof whenever you want it.

I just bought an S50. It's pretty sweet, however, it's only a playback device unless it's in its cradle (home or car), which is not a big deal for me. Yes, I got it for Stern!!

Whoa, that S50 ain't cheap, but looks pretty sweet!
I may need to explore some of the less expensive options. Already hard to justify to the wife why I need two satellite radio subscriptions and hardware.

I just got a Sirius unit and it looks like a royal pain to install in the car, especially routing the antenna. Since the car has XM I assume there's already a satellite antenna available. Is there anyway to connect into the XM antenna? While I'm at it, is there any way to hard wire the Sirius receiver into the audio system? The FM braodcast option is never great (iPod). I see Acura has an IPod dock in the 2006 model. If smart they'll put audio in jacks so we can plug in whatever our heart desires.

Well - the antenna isn't really that hard to route to the back of the car if you want to put it on the rear deck. I don't think you can use the XM antenna - but I am not entirely sure. You can hard wire it to the car - you can use an FM modulator (not wireless) - still not as good as a real solution, but a hell of a lot better than a wireless broadcast.
The ipod solution for the cars is not simply audio inputs - unfortunately; however, maybe in the future we may see that....?
