I-039: on star

One question for anyone....
Does anyone have or has had in the past the on-star system in the RL activated, if so how do you go about doing it? Or am i just stuck with useless buttons because of the analog to digital convertion?
Any answers would be much appreciated

05 and 06 RLs have digital ONSTAR capability.

You can press the ONSTAR blue button and set up an account. Also online at http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/index.jsp

Further, if you set up a profile with MyAcura.com, you can link it to your ONSTAR Account.

I have had, and continue to use ONSTAR since I purchased my RL.

As usual, Tampa is correct. While analog cellular may have gone away, the digital portion of OnStar still works, and includes a 3 watt transmitter using Verizon service. You could, if you wanted to, add the car phone as another line on your family plan.

Here is the description from Acura:

The OnStar service system is integrated into the car's suite of electronic conveniences. This allows the system to dial phone numbers displayed on the navigation system by automatic voice command. This version of OnStar service is equipped with a Digital/Analog Tri-mode phone. This means that in addition to Analog communication, the phone operates on both CDMA bands (Cellular and PCS) used by all CDMA digital networks in the US.

Interested you say that, I called ONSTAR last month and after I gave the vin number to customer service the guy told me that I can't get service because ONSTAR don't have a contract with Acura anymore.

I got my ONSTAR renewal just a few weeks ago. I spoke to an ONSTAR rep yesterday.

It is true, Acura is not longer installing ONSTAR on vehicles after the 2006RL. This was rooted in the Acura SLX - Isuzu Trooper - GM agreement years ago.

But having no contract with Acura does not mean they do not support subscriptions. When Acura ends it's XM agreement, I do not expect our receivers and subscriptions to halt.

It is very simple to see if your ONSTAR is transmitting:

Activation for Pre-Owned Vehicles

•Push your blue OnStar button
•Be sure to mention the "Three Months On Us" Trial*
•An OnStar Advisor will activate your system

I too asked for the 3-Month Free Trial and OnStar told me that the free trial was only for Certified Pre-Owned "GM" vehicles. After a minute of arguing that I was told differently, the OnStar rep awarded me the trial membership. So don't settle for a simple "No". My free trial membership ends in June, but I will definitely keep the service as it provides many benefits.

I occasionally press the blue button to see if anyone answers....they do, and are always friendly.
