How to select iPod

I have been using my iPod for a couple of months without any problems. Recently, I have been not able to use it. When I push the "disc" button, it doesn't switch to the CD Changer/iPod mode anymore. I get the same result whether or not I have the iPod connected. Before, if I had the iPod disconnected it would say the CD Changer/accessory was "ejected."

Anyone know how to get that to work again? Is there a setting that needs to be configured to tell the car that you have a changer or iPod connected? Or is this automatically detected by the presence of the iPod cable?

Thanks.

Huge

It sounds like to me that the connector on the back of the head unit came undone. Actually, whn you push the CD button you should see in the display CD or CD-C and should switch back and forth as button is pushed. If it does not switch then your head unit is probably faulty.

thanks but i think it may be something else...

on the day i installed new iPod software is when the problem happened. i was excited on my drive to work because the iPod controls were working on the iPod itself. i could choose the playlist i wanted to play and switch songs from the iPod unit and it would play thru the RL stereo fine as usual. i thought that was great. but then on the way home, after work, the unit was unresponsive from the dash (the problem i described above). so... i may be wrong, but this makes me think its a software problem. the iPod works fine but the car just doesn't see it anymore.

what makes you think its the connection in the back? is this just a hunch or do you know how it works from experience working with the head unit.

thanks!

I would check your dock connector on the ipod and the plug from the vehicle. give it a few blows to clean it out. Sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Not a software problem. Does your ipod still charge from the vehicle?

But this doesn't have anything to do with the vehicle seeing your ipod, this is only the crappy TTS software.

This sounds like exactly your problem, Hugh...

From Acura Service Newsletter:

Acura Music Link Stops Working
The Acura Music Link harness in ’06 MDXs, RLs,
and TLs can break connection with an Apple iPod
if the harness isn’t properly plugged in or it’s
shaken by vibration. If this happens, Music Link
stops working (it goes into lock mode) with or
without the check mark showing on the iPod
display screen. And on some models, the audio
unit may not switch to CDC or CD4 mode.
To fix these problems, don’t replace the Acura
Music Link unit; you won’t get a lasting repair. A
permanent fix is in the works, but until it’s
available, you can reset the unit as a temporary
measure. Here’s how:
1. Make sure you’ve got the anti-theft codes for
the audio unit (and the navigation code if
equipped), then write down the audio presets.
2. Refer to the appropriate ETM, and pull the B+
fuse for the audio unit. Reinstall the fuse.
or
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery
first, then disconnect the positive cable. Touch
the cables together for 15 minutes with the
ignition switch turned to ON (II). Reconnect
the battery cables. Refer to the appropriate
S/M, and do all required initialization or reset
procedures.
3. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio unit
(and navigation code if equipped), then enter
the audio presets. Set the clock.
