How to Hard Reset the Nav Unit

My Nav unit in my 05 RL started acting up again. Ejecting the Nav disc or pulling the fuse would do a soft reset that would briefly help. When I had the car in at the dealership, they did a hard reset - which wiped everything clean - home - address book - previous destinations....everything (except radio presets)

The hard reset worked great - the Nav unit again functions flawlessly. (It would previously get disc read error, hang, take forever,....

Is there a way to hard reset the Nav unit without taking it into the dealer??

i think the only way is to disconnect the negative battery terminal. make sure you have the security codes handy

No that will not wipe the Nav clean. You have to go into the service menu by pressing MENU+MAP+CANCEL

Once the service menu is up the reset option is under one of the menu selections. I just don't recall off the top of my head.

I know because I did this once. Wiped everything, messages, address books, previous destination and preferences.

I'll have to try this. I've had my RL for about 2 years and have not been able to use the navi for anything but as a map because anytime I try to actually use the navi to set a destination or anything, it'll lock up on me. Dealer tells me I just need to update DVD disc, it seems more like a software issue than a DVD issue.

I just updated my 2005 RL's nav. to the most current version from 4.13 but and still having issues. The nav. tries to self diagnose itself every time I start it up. I can bypass this by pressing Map/Guide Menu Cancel.

The dealer said they need to send out the unit and this will take up to 3 weeks and $500-$600...

It doesn't seem like it should be a hardware issue to me.

Think a hard reset will help?

Reset 2100 TSA nav system

I pressed -menu,map and cancel- all 3 at the same time. It took me to a screen that allowed me to run diagnostics on all the systems. I was then able to connect my phone.

Note: You must tell it to run the diagnostics.
