Hardwire Radar Detector
I'm getting a new RL next week. I'm planning to ask my dealer to hardwire a power cable that will run from the RL's fuse panel under/behind the dashboard up to the bottom of the windshield where my radar detector will be mounted with the usual suction cups to the windshield. The company that makes my radar detector has a power cable designed for this exact purpose -- a connector jack on one end and bare cable on the other end.
Is there any reason NOT to do this or is there a better way to do it?
The alternative is to use the standard coiled power cord from the detector to the cigarette lighter but I'd rather not have that.

Watch out for problems if you mount it any where near the centre of the window. The interaction with the Nav system will probably set it off. It did with my V1 and I ended up mounting it in the top left corner of he window.

I am using a mute button with my V-1, so I decided to tap into the accessory power in the console. Took me about 30 minutes. You remove the carpet sides of the console, and thread wire under dash to weatherstripping. You can simply pull off the tan fuzzy weatherstrip and there is plenty of room behind it to run wire up to headliner. Not even close to being in the way of the side curtain airbag. Across the top and zip tied to the mirror makes it neat.
I have mine suction cupped right underneath the mirror, low enough for a straight rear shot, and I have not had any interference from the NAV screen.
