Handsfree Link Acknowledgement...?
Does anyone know if the RL acknowledges the presence of a linked phone? In my recently departed TL there was "telephone" icon that appeared in the center display panel whenever a linked phone was present.
I don't think it does. Also - in the RL you can't scroll through the MID to go to the phone screen like you could in the TL. I am not sure why you can't do that either. It also doesn't pause the playing of a CD while using the HFL.

Basically, if your phone is connected and working, it will simply work or not work. If it's not connected, the system will say "No paired phones have been found." Of course, mine says that all the time, even with my phone in the car.
CD Doesn't Pause during phone calls
How can the CD not pause when a call comes in? That's ridiculous. I listen to Books on Tape (CD). My 2004 TL always paused. By the time the phone rings, it's too late to pause the CD by pressing the disk number. So after the call, I have to try to figure out where I was in the story. I was sure it had to be a defect in just my car, but after reading the comments here, I guess it's a design defect. Has anybody found a solution? My RL is a 2006 that I just purchased used with 1800 miles on it.

I do agree that it does not show a phone is connected, it just works when you press the HFL button.
Certainly doesn't pause in my 05. These are the kinds of things that make you wonder if the guys and gals that put these things together ever use the products they build. Or at least do a beta test with some tech savvy and critical people that look for those types of oversights.
It does pause in my 06. I think this is one of the subtle changes that were made between the 05 & 06 models. These subtle changes are typically not highlighted by the manufacturer to avoid irritating the earlier model owners.

It was so subtle that my '06 didn't pick it up. Mine was manufactured in July '06 I think.

Second part seems to be about pausing. It seems that it not just iPod interface, but also the CD/DVD itself. Should we start an informal list to discern trends?
My car:
2006 RL CMBS CD/DVD pauses on HFL use as delivered. Installed Neo ProLink iPod adapter aftermarket, now both iPod and CD/DVD pauses on HFL use.

2006 RL CMBS - CD doesn't pause with HFL use. I have the USA Spec adapter that I took out of my 2005 before trading it in. Maybe I'll install it in the 06.
How about we add last 5 digits of the VIN? Mine is 00441. I guess that mean it's an early 06. Maybe they updated the headunit or HFL firmware sometime during the 2006 production run. FWIW, I had a weird version Nav disc in the car when I got it that lacked some features of earlier discs.
