Groundhog day for auto lock system - Acura RL 2011 auto lock activates at low speed

Hello friends.

I have an RL 2011 that was in good shape until last week or so. The automatic door lock activates at low speeds probably around 9-10 mph. Gaining speed every time after I slow down, at stop sign or traffic light, all 4 doors lock. It does not seem it was unlocked at any point. When parked and locking the doors with key FOB, it didn't make the beeping sound when pressed more than once to ensure its locked. Some times, it seemed the door was not locked when I came back or didn't auto open/click the lock when I approached the handle of the driver's side door. I have extended warranty on it and plan to take it to the dealer. I changed the battery of the key FOB and the issue seemed to have resolved completely after driving couple of times. But next morning, it was back at same pace.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

JD

sounds like either your driver's door lock actuator is going out or the door sensor.

Havent had issues with it that I know of but haven't looked into this. I wonder if dealers check battery life during oil and filter change service ?
*confession- I am a novice at cars and its issues.*

^open the hood to reveal the battery.
see if there is a born date sticker on the top or the side of the battery.

batteries tend to last 3-4 years.
sometimes, in extreme weather conditions, only 2 years

if you have a voltmeter, you could measure the battery's voltage when the car is off.
it should be 12.4-12.6 volts...anything less, your battery is dead

I will check the battery sticker and also with a voltmeter. Wont this be odd that car is running fine and the only thing affected by car battery issue is door auto locks ?

we're troubleshooting.
sometimes, weak batteries will make electronics wonky.

best course of action is to make sure your electrical system, the battery is up to par first!
then, you can move on to a door actuator or sensor.... if battery checks out good.

The RL is notorious for eating batteries and getting unusual results. Some people have replaced their RL battery within 18 months of purchase. A good warranty is definitely worth it for this car.

Also, many, many RL owners have had issues with batteries that "tested good" but went away with a replacement.

Update March 2017.
I had it fixed and drove for another week just to be sure it stays fixed.
It was the door lock actuator, actually for both driver and passenger side.
They fixed the driver's side first and it still caused same issue.
I took it back and they said its the passenger side actuator too.
They fixed it and no more issues.
This was not an Acura dealer ship but a car max type place called Car Sense.
I had the bought the car with 30 k miles and extended warranty so had to take it back to this place.
Thanks to all who shared their thoughts and suggestions !
