DVD-A's won't work...

Hey. I've browsed the forum alot and don't really see an answer to this.

I have 2 DVD-A, and they don't work. They work fine on my home system, and the discs both says 'DVD-A' on them, as does the car. However, when I put them in, the disc number just blinks and continues to blink, never actually playing anything.

I have an 06 RL, if that helps.

These are 2 of my favorite DVD-As, and I spent a good amount of money on them, so any solutuons/fixes you guys can come up with will be appreciated. Thank you very much!

Do these DVDs have video too? If so, be sure the correct Audio side is facing down when youu insert the disc. If not video, I don't have a solution for you.

Yeah it does. And the DVD-As have still images that play when you play it on a PC/Soundsystem, but no actual moving videos. The disc also is only one side. The other side has writing and screenprinted stuff on it.

Just a guess here, but one of my DVD-A's (Seal Greatest Hits) has music in separate folders. I can play some of the music (at the 'root' directory), but I can't access the other bonus music in other folders. I can't figure out how to open other folders where the music files reside.

Given your DVD has both still pictures and music, I'm wondering if they are on different folders ... and no way to get to them.

There was an earlier thread on this somewhere... I have this issue with a few DVD-A's, too. No clue why my Porcupine Tree "Fear of a Blank Planet" special edition won't play, but I feel your pain as I spent a fortune on Ebay to get it....

My suggestion is to rip the audio portion of the DVD-A using DVD Audio Extractor and then re-encode it using DVD Audio Solo onto a brand new DVD-R disc. Then you can play the new disc in the car and your original disc at home.

Doesn't DVD Extractor only work on the audio portion of video DVDs? I'm pretty sure that a DVD-A disc has a different encoding scheme that most ripper programs cannot handle.

Yes, it does that and more. For example, some music video sound tracks are recorded in DVD-A, DTS or other 5.1 formats. Using the software, you can rip the 6 channel sound and re-encode it.

I had the same problem. Purchased a DVD-A from Best Buy, inserted in the RL player and the light blinked but would not play. Put it in my home system and it played but with still pictures changing every 15 seconds to the music. Brought it back to Best Buy explained the problem (not playing in the RL) so he put it in his player and it would not play. He put it in another player and it would play. So it must be a weird coding that only specific players can decode.

Did anybody ever figure out if and how we can access "bonus tracks" on a DVD-A? I have a Doors dual-disk set and the CD reads the bonus just fine, but the DVD acts as though they're not on there. My computer's freeware DVD player shows and plays them all but the bonus tracks are in a different folder.
