"DVD-Audio" Discs won't play.

I purchased two DVD-Audio discs recently, and neither of them work in either my RL or my G/F's RDX system, they do however work in my Home DVD player.

My guess is they are not true Audio-DVD format, and just a DVD with some music files on them....they have videos on them as well.

Any ideas? It's no major issue, as the set came with a regular Audio CD as well of each album, so I can use that in the car.

The reason I ask at all is that the DVD-Audio logo is printed on each, so I thought it would work.

I recently went to extreme lengths (don't ask) to purchase the DVD-A special edition of Porcupine Tree's "Fear of a Blank Planet" only to have my RL spit it out repeatedly when I try and play it.

Plays fine on my home theater system, but will NOT play on the RL despite having both the DVD-A logo AND the DTS logo.

I'm guessing it's the way the tracks are arranged in folders on the disc. I was thinking about playing around with a backup copy of the disc to try and make a playable one for the RL, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Keep me posted on when you do, and good luck!

That's the thing....these also had the DTS and DVD-A audio on them, in fact in the Home DVD playerI can choose between DTS and another type of format(which escapes me at the moment.)

Usually it's a hi-res 24-bit PCM format.... that's what's on these discs.

Yup I had the same problem with a disc labeled DVD-A. I think the problem was when I played it on the home player still pictures were displayed while the music was playing (it was some classical DVD-A). I think the video files on the disc somehow make it incompatible with the RL's player.

Every DVD-A disc I've ever owned has some video or art that shows on the screen while playing in a home theatre system -- but except for the last one I bought, I've never had one fail to play.

Now you have me curious. I haven't owned a DVD-A until I bought the RL. I always played DTS CD's on my home system. Actually I haven't even tried any of the DVD-A that I currently own (about 5) on the home system except for the one that didn't play on the RL. I'll try them out.
